I like to read christian biographies/autobiographies as they tend to encourage my faith. I have the complete Christian heroes now and then series, the Heavenly Man etc. What other books can I look up for in this genre?

Hello, I like to read this type of genre also.

I found "Total Abandon" by Gary Witherall very inspiring. It's about a tragic event in his life, but how faith in the Lord helped him overcome it.

"God's Smuggler" by Brother Andrew was really good, detailing his mission to smuggle Bibles into the Soviet Union.

"90 Minutes in Heaven" by Don Piper tells a story of a Baptist minister who suffers a horrific injury. It also features visions of Heaven, but for me the rest of the story was fascinating also.

"Taming the Tiger" by Tony Anthony was one about a man who had been involved in criminality before finding faith.

"My Story" by Selwyn Hughes was another interesting biography.

I've read a few but the books above are the ones that I've found the most interesting or memorable, albeit a few of them were released quite a while back.

Where do you want to begin?
5 pioneer missionaries is a challenging read. Life of Hudso Tailor, Amy Charmichael, Eric Liddell, Gladys Alywood. A more modern read Jackie Pullinger.

May I suggest talking to your pastor for his recommendations of books to read.

I can give you some that you can read for free.
THOMAS WATSON (c.1620-1686)

Hi there! It sounds like you’ve already explored some incredible books that are both inspiring and faith-building. If you're looking to dive deeper into Christian biographies and autobiographies, here are a few recommendations:
  1. "God's Smuggler" by Brother Andrew
This is a powerful story of a man who smuggled Bibles into communist countries, trusting God every step of the way. It’s full of faith-stretching moments!
  2. "Evidence Not Seen" by Darlene Deibler Rose
Darlene shares her story as a missionary who was imprisoned in a Japanese POW camp during World War II. Her unwavering faith in unimaginable circumstances is truly inspiring.
  3. "Through Gates of Splendor" by Elisabeth Elliot
This book recounts the story of Jim Elliot and the other missionaries who gave their lives to reach the Auca people in Ecuador. It’s a beautiful testimony of sacrifice and grace.
  4. "Shadow of the Almighty" by Elisabeth Elliot
A companion to Through Gates of Splendor, this book focuses more on Jim Elliot’s personal writings and thoughts on faith.
  5. "The Hiding Place" by Corrie ten Boom
A classic must-read, this autobiography shares Corrie’s experiences during World War II, her time in a Nazi concentration camp, and her journey of forgiveness.
  6. "Seeking Allah, Finding Jesus" by Nabeel Qureshi
While not a traditional biography, this is a deeply moving account of Nabeel’s journey from Islam to Christianity, highlighting the cost and joy of following Christ.
  7. "Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy" by Eric Metaxas
This is an in-depth look at the life of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a German pastor who stood against Hitler and was ultimately executed for his faith.
  8. "Out of the Depths" by John Newton
This is the story of John Newton, the former slave trader turned Christian who wrote the hymn Amazing Grace. His transformation is nothing short of miraculous.
I hope some of these resonate with you! Let me know if you’d like more suggestions. 😊

I just read this one (I'm sure they have it in English too):

Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Mártir, Profeta, Espía
