I posted this in response to someone's request for suggestions in the Theology forum. For Christian readers, this site is tremendous!

Here's a link to a website I go to when searching for a particular book, author, or browsing for something new. http://christianbookreviews.net/

It has a big database. Down the middle, you have new highlights, and down the right side you can look into different genres, categories and authors. Not only is it a site with Christian books, but it gives reviews. These are important to read, because among the authors are names like Dan Brown. It lists his books with descriptions, but if you click on the REVIEW button, you will find they point out the terrible flaws in his stories and his supposed knowledge of the Church. In that sense, it's even a better site than some, because it will expose books and authors that might appear to be Christian but aren't and recommend books are are truly Christian. :amen

My only wish is that it reviewed older books as well. There are some timeless classics that are decades old that don't show up. I have to depend on word of mouth for older books.

I know you like that site Mike, but I would give it a thumbs down. I respect you and all, so I hope my opinion of it does not get you too mad.

That christianbookreview site looks like it should change the name to catholicbookreview, or theological-litmus-test-review.

"Left Behind" has sold over 65 millions copies, and this guy calls it awful. On the surface it looks like any book that does not take a positive review of Catholicism, or does not follow Catholic doctrine, is labeled as Catholic bashing.

Hal Lindsey got zero stars. Don Piper is not even mentioned (90 Minutes In Heaven). Bruce Bickel & Stan Jantz are not mentioned(I'm Fine With God...). Nothing from Max Lucado (Fearless) or William Young (The Shack).

I know some people may like this site, but it is as non-impartial as you can get. I hope there is a site out there that does review Christian read books without being nasty about it, or least reviews the best sellers that are out there now.

Michae1, you are absolutely right! It's been a while since I posted this thread. I actually forgot about it. I had been locked in on a couple of links on the site, but since then, I have not paid any attention to it. I'm glad this post resurfaced so I could amend my accreditation. :D

I really wish there was a site I could trust to promote Christian authors. One of my favorite authors is Lynn Austin. She did an amazing series called "Chronicles of the Kings" surrounding King Hezekiah. This is right up my alley as I LOVE... LOVE biblical fiction (when it's consistent with scripture). I emailed her once out of the blue thanking her for her work, and she replied with thanks, but a hint of frustration. Publishers seem to underestimate the demand for Christian authors and make it difficult on them.

Thanks for the post. Point well taken and well deserved! But a few comments of personal taste in response...

I'm an a-millenneist, so the Left Behind series doesn't interest me. Thumbs down. (kinda cheesy writing too, IMO)

Max Lucado - just too vanilla for me. He's very "safe" with his books.

My favorite genre is "biblical fiction" for light reading. For more weighty stuff, I love Hank Hanegraaff.
