Christian versions of worldliness

I wasn't really surprised though because this particular Church group was an offshoot an another Church I visited for a bit. They used to ask people who had "tithed" to stand and receive a blessing. :biggrin
For some reason that does not surprise me.

The topic might indeed be confusing. So, in the world today there are a lot of awful things going on everywhere. Sinful activities. And when you don't join them you are considered old-fashioned and ridiculous. You may lose members.

So some churches kind of adopt the system of the world and try to make them appear Christian. So, is it proper to attract people to our Christian stuff this way?

Music is one thing I've noticed. While music itself is not sinful, I think using music to try and attract people to your church is getting really close to the line. Many of the old hymns and worship songs are being thrown out and replaced with music that has a more upbeat secular tone.

As I said, the music isn't sinful, it's how you use it. Trying to imitate the world is not a good thing.

I agree that that would be a problem.
Although at my church during VBS the little kids were encouraged to bring some tithe money, and they made it into a competition between the boys and girls. Is that wrong? There was no prize involved that I remember.
My personal opinion is that it's not wrong, depending on how it's done of course. The problem I had in the example I gave was that the people who were brought in were made to feel like they were nothing more than pawns to help someone win a prize. The coins the kids bring in probably didn't feel that way. :biggrin2

Edit: Then again I read Deborah13's comments on this after I wrote this and she makes sense too. A lot of these kind of things really are going to be a matter of personal opinion.

But it's not just the modern music. I know a head elder of a church who told me they use the old hymns in order to attract the older folks who tend to like them better because older people tend to have more money to give to support the church. It goes many ways!

I personally find many of the modern worship songs more relatable. Not that I dislike hymns. I practice them on the piano on a weekly basis.

Most churches that I know use some of both.

Another church has a transparent offering box. Everyone sees what you drop into the box

Why is that crap actually making the news, anyway? "Miley Cyrus twerks again". And I care why?

Questdriven this stuff is what our world thrives on. Maybe we care because she may be submitting to dark powers to gain celebrity and needs our prayers. Many entertainers follow this highly sexual path it's sad.

Unfortunately, Miley is doing just what her daddy set up to do. Gain attention anyway they could and hang on to it anyway that she can. It's really sad.
What decent father agrees to having his 12-13 yr old daughter photographed in suggestive poses?
