Christians And War

What do you all think of this stuff below ?

Christians and War

Q: Since God said we should not kill, is it not a sin when born again Christians in Military services do so?

A: Although the Bible commands us not to kill (Exodus 20:13), it also gives
at least three exceptions to this command, or you might say three
situations where the taking of another's life is not killing in the
biblical sense.

1. A murderer is to have his life taken. God told Noah, "Whoso sheddeth
man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made
he man" (Genesis 9:6). Capital punishment is God's plan in this case.

2. An exception is made for self-protection. Exodus 22:2 states, "If a
thief be found breaking up, and be smitten that he die, there shall no
blood be shed for him." If you took a life to protect your own life or
the lives of others, God accepts that as a proper cause.

3. War is the final exception. About the same time that God was giving
the commandment to not kill, He was also numbering "all that are able to
go forth to war in Israel" (Numbers 1:3). The Bible allows for the
killing of enemy soldiers in war. Even Jesus spoke of going to war as a
natural condition on this earth (Luke 14:31). Paul speaks of a ruler as
"a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil" (Romans 13:4).
This would include going to war.

However, even though God allows for war and even though Christians are
not told that they cannot go to war, that does not mean that Christians
have to blindly follow every war without consideration. Peter said, "We
ought to obey God rather than men" (Acts 5:29). This shows us that there
are times when the laws of man go against the law of God. If a Christian
knows that a war goes against God, he has the right to refuse to fight it
in obedience to a higher power. However, he should be extemely careful in
his decision and realize that he will have to pay the consequences no
matter what they are. It is not a matter of whether or not we agree with
the war. It must go much deeper than that. The war must go against
another clear command of God. Only then do we have a right to refuse to
fight.

Thanks for writing. I know that this may not be the answer you were
looking for but I hope it helps.

Till He comes,

ahh so they are exceptions now :-D

anywho, onto commentary,
luke 14:13 seems to be saying "don't wage war, but be prepared to defend yourself" as what it seems like exodus says, to protect your life.

numbers 1:3 speaks of a specific tale where the people were commanded to war (was anyone commanded now? in Iraq?)

as for romans, shortly before is stated
"Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay"
( i mean, of course, romans there just condemned the revolutionary war, the french revolution, the invasion of vietnam, iraq, and korea, and well, basically all other wars, because, they were put in power by god, apparently)

Peace there were always wars in the Bible. I don't know if this war is God ordained but the people that we are fighting do a lot of evil things.

How about just draft atheists and non-Christians and let them kill off all of the horrid masses against the ideals of America?! :D

Yeah! That's the ticket!! They might even repent once their life is jeopardized in war, and become believers!!! 8-)

Brilliant just absolutely brilliant I tell you. :-D :D

Seriously though, what does everybody think of this war, and the Christians who are over there fighting in this war ?

Personally, I think anyone, Christian, atheist, muslim, whatever, fighting in this war, is doing something horrible that they shouldn't.

I think the only people that should go to war, are those that 100% want to. If there was ever a draft, I would be one of the first to burn my draft card, and protest the (edited) out of it.

The only time I am willing to fight in a war, is if WE are invaded.

The Bible commands us not to murder, but it's translated "kill" in (Exodus 20:13), it still means murder. We need to make a distinction between murder, which is always forbidden, and capitol punishment, war, or any other "killing (non murder)", which, if done with the right motives in truth, are biblical.

We need to seperate our personal responsibility of how we must respond when being persecuted for our faith, making the distinction between that and our governments God given duty to administer justice and defend its people. Romans 13:1-5

Ecclesiastes 3
1 To everything there is a season,

A time for every purpose under heaven:

2 A time to be born,
And a time to die;
A time to plant,
And a time to pluck what is planted;
3 A time to kill,
And a time to heal;

A time to break down,
And a time to build up;
4 A time to weep,
And a time to laugh;
A time to mourn,
And a time to dance;
5 A time to cast away stones,
And a time to gather stones;
A time to embrace,
And a time to refrain from embracing;
6 A time to gain,
And a time to lose;
A time to keep,
And a time to throw away;
7 A time to tear,
And a time to sew;
A time to keep silence,
And a time to speak;
8 A time to love,
And a time to hate;
A time of war,
And a time of peace.

most of you will be too young, but remember "The Byrds" who sang this in the sixties? Yep most of it's straight from the Bible.

Song: Turn! Turn! Turn! (to Everything There Is a Season) Lyrics

To everything - turn, turn, turn
There is a season - turn, turn, turn
And a time for every purpose under heaven

A time to be born, a time to die
A time to plant, a time to reap
A time to kill, a time to heal
A time to laugh, a time to weep

To everything - turn, turn, turn
There is a season - turn, turn, turn
And a time for every purpose under heaven

A time to build up, a time to break down
A time to dance, a time to mourn
A time to cast away stones
A time to gather stones together

To everything - turn, turn, turn
There is a season - turn, turn, turn
And a time for every purpose under heaven

A time of war, a time of peace
A time of love, a time of hate
A time you may embrace
A time to refrain from embracing

To everything - turn, turn, turn
There is a season - turn, turn, turn
And a time for every purpose under heaven

A time to gain, a time to lose
A time to rend, a time to sew
A time to love, a time to hate
A time of peace, I swear it's not too late!

peace4all,

There is a good way and a not so good way to use words like you did above. Please refrain from using such words in that context. This IS a Christian Forum. I edited your post for it's compromising content.

Certainly, many zionist "Christians" seem to be quick to want to kill.

Here are Hebrew words translated "kill" in the KJV: harag, zabach, chalal, tabach, muwth (you shalt not "kill"), nakah, qatal, ratsach, and shachat. I doubt they all mean the same thing any more than "murder" and simply "kill" mean the same thing in English. The NIV says you shalt not "murder". "Murder" probably has some connection with "muwth" via murthre (the origin of the modern word).
