Church Burials

In my church, once you become a registered member you become a property of the church. If you die the church buries you. It is called 'church burial'. Your family may not even have access to your body. I think they sign stuff. (kind of strange, at times)

That is a strange doctrine. In my Church we're only written in the Lamb's book of life. At death our spirit departs to be with the Lord; inaccessible to our family, but the flesh remains in the grave.

2 Corinthians 5:8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

Ecc 12:7 then the dust will return to the earth as it was, and the spirit will return to God who gave it.

2 Corinthians 5:8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

Usually the family will attend the burial wether Christians or not. What the person actually signs is: he or she would be buried by the church in a Godly way.You know human tradition may include certain practices not suitable for a Christian body or gathering. E.g XY belonged to a non Christian group before he actually became a Chrsitian. That group might be one of those ungodly groups. So would it be right for that group to come claiming the body???

It might be more appropriate to consider what the laws of the land are. An ungodly coroner, detective, or other official may have first rights to the body. I do believe what you might be describing is something of a will, and that too would be subject to law. :shrug

Of Course and Os Courfe they may have right to the body (perhaps when it comes to autopsy, forensic stuff etc). At the end the church buried the body

This is kind of strange, the only church that does this sort of thing is the Closed Brethren or more generally called the EXCLUSIVE BRETHREN..

Other churches usually perform furnerals for their members, but they only perform the funeral service and that is all.

The Exclusive Brethren control the the property of the church members. Family members who are not part of the church cannot have access to their property even if the person is a child. There are branches here in Barbados. One of my school teachers was one. This church has caused lots of confusion and break up of families.

They are concerned with burying the dead.

They are concerned with burying the dead.

It is still kind of strange..since here in this country no church except the Exclusive Brethren do this. Here families are responsible for the burying of the dead..the church only PERFORM the service. I plan on checking this further. The Internet is a wonderful source.

I don't think any group should clain the body, it belongs to the family. When we become a Christian we become a part of the Body of Christ which is people from everywhere that know Jesus, that's THE church. So how could a group of people own a person? :confused Maybe in the time of slavery people owned people but not now. Well not in the USA anyway.

Yeah, I agree. It appears kind of strange. The family should have property of the body, not the church.

The person signs to be buried by the church. That doesn't mean the family doesn't have a cornerkick to play in the soccer of the burial.

Also, the church contributs well financially. Body's buried wherever the person (while alive) or the family desires - usually in the village or hometown. The major aid of the church is to support financially and conduct the service.

It seems unusual to be forced to sign such a thing, to be a member. Does the church have a belief that something happens to the soul of that person, if he/she were burried in a non-christian fasion?

However, if the person willingliy signs this contract, it seems fine to me. This person may be a christian in a non-christian family and their wish is to be burried in a Chrstian burial. It just seems very unusual thats its mandatory.
