My dear brethren who guided me in my other thread, please point me in the right direction!

Thank you.

Some of these are hilarious:

- Lois Roulston Beach Suburban Republican Women's Club Single-Parent Scholarship

I don't know how scholarships work. I never sought after them. That's not to say I have money, cuz I don't. I just never got around to it. This is the first term I applied for a Pell Grant though. I HIGHLY recommend you go for it.

FAFSA - Free Application for Federal Student Aid

It is federal gift money to be used for education. You do not repay it. The amount you will receive is calculated from how much you made last year and other factors such as dependency (People ages 24 and up are automatically declared independent even if they are technically dependent) and if you have dependents of your own. (kids).

Basically, your FAFSA money will be sent to your school. The school will use it to cover the courses you registered for. If there is money left over after that, you can use it to buy textbooks and other supplies. If there is funding left over still, they send you a refund check or some schools like mine have their own school debut card or whatever. That money can then be used for anything educationally justifyable from eyeglasses to laptops to gas money and food to rent or daycare and the bills. Just don't spend it on designer clothes or whatever.

Your pell award takes an eternity to process and deadlines may be up for this coming term, but you will still get it next term if you apply. They will give you half for one semester and half for the next. So you only need to apply once a year I think.

These grants are good for potentially thousands of dollars. You definitely need to check this one out.

Thank you very much for this! I didn't realize there were more to the FAFSA, so I didn't bother thinking I wouldn't qualify.

Thanks :thumbsup

Yeah, I made the same mistake and paid dearly for a few semesters. You will almost certainly qualify. Unless you, a potential spouse, or your dependencies (if applicable) make a lot of money. I think most everyone qualifies... I think drug related felons disqualify you also; but I seriously doubt that applies to you.

I once shot a man in reno just to watch him die, I hope that doesn't come back to haunt me :chin

As a college admissions rep, my advice is this:

Call you admissions counselor and financial aid office and stay on the phone until you have answer that are what you are looking for. We want you to be able to pay for college, esspecially if it means you will be attending OUR college. Some, colleges, and ours is heading in this direction, will even have staff that are trained to handle basic financial aid counseling for any school.

Most schools will find ways to get students to attend their college if the student is interested enough.

Examine you Stafford, Federal Pell, and other aid opportunities. Ask about potential institutional aid programs, academicly based scholarships, any particular traits that might apply to you: Examples: male/female based aid, Parent based aid, state aid.

guard service isnt still an option, in my state its free if you join.

and you still get the gi bill(a smaller amount but its all yours to do with as you please)

Thank you for your help BB! I'm going to go annoy the financial aid office when I start my classes.

And Jason, I'm too girly for boot camp!! I'm an old fashioned kind of girl. The men got the muscles; the men do the fixin' (yes, I am more than capable, but who doesn't love being pampered?)

So there goes that ida :lol

uh, women dont do front line jobs such as the infantry etc, and that also applies to the air guard(the airforce version of the national guard).

what about boot camp? i don't want to break a nail, they take forever to grow in and money to maintain! i am not opposed to finding me a military man to marry though :)

on the serious side. i live in a military town and many of my friends have joined the service. have been shipped overseas or are heading into boot camp. but the Lord has different plans for my life, i must obey them

LOL, this board is bringing it out of me! I'm so tired of Jesus being mocked and insulted. Everyone is always sensitive to the unbeliever, but no one shows that same sensitivity to the Lord. I know, I know, He allows(ed) it and it is only temporary. But right now at this time of my life it's a weak area for me. It's hard when the world attacks the softest, kindest, gentlest, most loving God alive. I hate it! It's not fair to Him! I have some maturing to do. I know I can't be a proper witness of Christ without that. However, He has His reasons for allowing it, and I've got to let that go. It's frustrating. Yet, at the same time, I think we have got to be bold (to the Muslim and the unbeliever) we have to turn the money changers tables over and tell the Brood of Vipers what is coming to them if they don't repent.

It's a fine line we must walk. I've learned a few things being here for some time. I'm calming down lol!
