Calls to ban “conversion therapy” for LGBTQ individuals looks more like religious discrimination than benevolent health measure.

It seems like we should encourage the LGBT+ community to build up resilience. No one is responsible for another person's emotions, or how they decide to act on those emotions. That's intrinsic to the idea of freedom of speech.

I think scripture has examples to contradict that. "Make a tree good, it's fruit will be good", "if anyone should cause one of these little ones who trust in me to stumble", "do not be conformed to the pattern of the world but be transformed by the renewing of the mind", "like a muddied spring or a poisoned well is the righteous who yields before the wicked", "with her enticing speech she caused him to yield, with flattering lips she seduced him", "I write to you young men because you are strong and the Word of God abides in you, you have overcome the evil one", "do you not know that to whom you submit yourself to serve, you are enslaved by that whom you serve? Whether sin that leads to death or obedience that leads to righteousness?".

It ultimately is the flesh that gives sin it's opportunity, but of course the Kohlet acknowledges that God made man upright - yet he has sought many devices. If therefore the flesh had no idea of the perverse tastes, it would not consider those tastes to be desirable. It is far too late to avoid the corrupting influence of sin by the time a person has come of age to decide whether to subject himself to it. Furthermore, in this age, the ones who are teaching the doctrines of sexuality are also corrupted in their belief to oppose the sound teaching of scripture concerning sin.

I liked both posts because both made valid points. :-)

fun fact: "treatment" for any dsm/icd-diagnosis is generally...not very effective. at all. some are even harmed by treatment, whether its pills or talk (or both). add in stigma, labels, costs, and the godless nature of both psychology (and the watered down off shoots, such as counseling) and psychiatry, and...

ugh. i doubt there's any real hope for same sex lusts in the hands of a "mental health expert," because there isn't much hope for anyone, with any problems in living or sin patterns in the hands of such "experts." on good day, its over priced tea and sympathy. more often, its the blind leading the blind. :-)

another point...

this isn't 'religious discrimination;' this is a religion vs religion battle. psychology and psychiatry are both pseudoscientific -belief systems- (basically, secular religions) that also serve as (often brutal) forms of social control. Christianity is a religion composed of wheat and tares...the continuing presence of tares, along with wolves in sheep's clothing, false teachers, false prophets, plus the forces of secularization probably explain why psychology and psychiatry have successfully infiltrated (and subverted) most of the established church, along with other religions, in other places.

I don't go for his mega-capitalist libertarianism (obviously), but his scathing critique of all things mental health - related remain spot on and quite helpful. :-)

It's the combined truth of 2 Peter 2:1-2 and Galatians 1:8-9, resulting in 2 Thessalonians 2:3 and creating the present state of Romans 8:20.

To paraphrase, I am saying that the scriptures teach us that 2,000 years ago there were false teachers bringing in destructive false teachings, and that those who have followed the false teachings have become accursed. Now we are in a time of apostasy whereby even those who are the most religious, because of their false teachings, are not following the conviction of the Holy Spirit in order to become what God wants them to become. Instead, they cling to the beliefs that they have been taught are their salvation, being pitted against the truth, and thus creation groans eagerly for the revealing of the sons of God.

Ephesians 4 has a nice description of the intended function of the Christian people, whereby we all are cooperating not by negotiating and democratically assigning the work loads, but by each of us doing our part. When each is doing its part effectively, the whole body grows in love and when that happens perfectly, it will grow to obtain the fullness of the stature of Christ.

The false doctrines result in a Christian being cursed to always think that they are not worthy of carrying Christ's name, and thus it is unthinkable for them that anyone could possibly say "I am He!".. therefore they would never speak with such authority, and because they do not have the authority of Christ, nor are they born of the same spirit, they are not able to accurately know the doctrines of spirituality (1 Corinthians 2:14) and so they naturally concede to the doubts of secular philosophy when they find that they also happen to have the same (carnal, unspiritual) views.
