An OT Saint asked the question,"if a man die will he live again"? Little was known in the OT about what happens after the GRAVE. Job and King David had some insight, but only by revelation. (Job 14:14; 19:26; Acts 2:29-31). There was a reason for that, and the NT tells us why: For it was left up to Christ to bring life an immortality to light. Notice it does not say that He created it at that time, but that He brought it to light.
Something that already existed (2 Tim. 1:10) .
Martha, the sister of Lazarus was walking with Jesus on the way to Lazarus tomb talking about her brother, saying to Jesus,"Lord, if you had been here Lazarus would not have died, and I know if you ask God He will give you what ever you ask for," Jesus replies, "thy brother shall rise again". Martha says she knows that in the last days he shall rise again at the resurrection. But The Christ says "I,am The Resurrection, and whosoever liveth and believest in me shall never die, do you believe this? Martha's answer is much like ours today, "yes Lord I believe thou art the Christ the Son of God who should come into the world", and then she goes her way, still thinking He was talking about the "last days".(John 11:1-28). If you notice, Christ waited four days so there would be no mistake that Lazarus would be in a state of decay (John 11:39-40) Jesus Shouted, "Lazarus, come forth" (I heard a pastor say once, "it is a good thing He said Lazarus, or everyone in the graves would have come forth.) and so, he came forth.
The body of man is made from the dust of the earth, and the breath of life of man comes from God. So as the body of man is claimed by and returned to the earth. So it is with the breath of life, it is given by God and returned to God.(Gen.3: 19). Waiting for the new body. (2 Cor.5:1-8) There is no fear of death to the born again Christian. But we fear of the death for those who refuse Christ, for we know how it ends...we have the Book. "If you believe in me ye shall never die," Do you believe Christ? I Do.
(John Chapter 10 & 11; 1 Cor. Chapter 15) and many more Scriptures on what happens after the grave NT.
