Deja Vu

I'm no expert, but I would think considering the Bible was written in Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic, "deja vu" (being French for "already seen") wouldn't be in there. However, Scripture is full of people having dreams and visions, so perhaps there's something there I'm just not aware of.

The term déjà vu is a French term coined by a French psychic researcher named Émile Boirac. Déjà vu means “already seen,” and is also called “paramnesia.” It describes the feeling of having already experienced a situation. When experiencing déjà vu, one is struck with feelings of familiarity and strangeness, which can make one feel that the situation has truly happened before.

Approximately two thirds of adults claim to have had a déjà vu experience. Déjà vu experiences have been connected with medical conditions, such as schizophrenia, epilepsy, and anxiety. No one really knows what causes these episodes, although psychologists have also come up with theories such as stress and internal hidden conflicts. Some believe déjà vu is the memory of previously forgotten dreams. Still others associate it with psychic abilities, prophecy, or past-life experiences.

A déjà vu experience could be the result of God revealing certain things to a person before the event occurred, but the experience could also simply be the result of something occurring that is very similar to an event in the past. The event triggers the memory, causing an "eerie" sense of familiarity. Rather than being a spiritual issue, déjà vu is likely a simple and harmless physical one.

:confused if déjà vu is a feeling that a given situation has already happened BEFORE, how could that be a revelation of certain things that are going to happen in the FUTURE?

Oh well, this is too complicated for my brain. I give up. :shrug

Well, if it's the feeling that the situation has happened before, then (assuming that's true) when said situation happened before, was it not a revelation of what would happen in the future, which is why you feel it's happened before???

Yeah, I know, I'm stretching the logic farther than Mr. Fantastic (anybody get that reference? Heh heh). But I couldn't resist having a little fun. ;)

The feeling of deja vu is most typically felt due to crossed synapse in the brain, accidentally plugging current events into a memory bank of brain cells. Really. That's all it is.

I believe this is it. Nothing more. When I was in college 25 years ago, I read about this in a physiology text book. The theory was that there is a split second delay in the synapses of the brain where the brain is breaking down data that had been received a fraction of a second before. So, you feel like it's all familiar.

IMO, that's almost as bizarre as the paranormal experience would be if it were real. Nick

Your simply making two simultaneous recordinigs of the interaction(s) and or event(s) as to preserve one of them with your own perspective superimposed on it, with the other reserved for analysis with all possible variable factors involved for study.

I wanted to study psychology, but it sounds so difficult :sad
It can be, but it's not that difficult once you understand that everything is a theory and there is no real science to it. As a Christian who wants state certifications in all levels of addictions treatment, I've learned to absorb what they teach so that I can regurgitate it on tests and in group work, so I can get the grades necessary to show I'm qualified for the certifications. Then of course I have to do the clinical supervision thing, where I'm supervised by a licensed counselor in order to show proficiency in the various disciplines. But I can do that, too. Otherwise, I rely mostly on the Bible to counsel my clients.

My theory:

We dream. Sometimes we can remember a dream for a short time but later in the day it's forgotten. And of course there are dreams we don't remember so readily.

I honestly think there's nothing all that mysterious about the feeling of Deja Vu. Besides, people love mysteries. But if you get into a situation that reminds you of a dream you can't quite put your finger on, one you can't quite remember then you can get the feeling of being there before. And you have. In that dream just outside the edge of conscience memory.

It's a simply theory and not all that mysterious.

I agree, although I've already had deja vu so strongly that for about two or 3 days full of events seemed to be familiar, one event right after another, then it leaves as abruptly as it started. When my deja vu is this strong, I actually can predict what will happen next, or at least it seems that way.

Me too Tim, I get it quite frequently. I get it so much that I sense something bad may happen but it never does. It feels as though its tied into my dreams somehow.

I've never had anything as strong as you have but I have had several times when I was listening to a conversation and I knew ahead of time what the next two people to speak would say. and just reg. old deja vue

I dunno. That sounds like a pretty strong deja vu to me. :lol
