“In the fear of the Lord there is strong confidence; And his children will have a place of refuge.” - Proverbs 14:26

Children are a gift of the Lord and a blessing from God. No wonder that they are very precious and matter most in our lives. Of course, it is quite true that we need to leave an inheritance to our children. That does not mean only material possessions. It includes what is being imparted to them for their spiritual life such as growing in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ and fearing God. When parents fear the Lord and walk in His ways and lead a godly life, the children will have the place of refuge. Amassed wealth, magnificent mansions and expensive rifles can not be as protective as that of God’s. When God is our refuge, it is strong enough to protect us for thousand generations. Our children will be blessed if they take God as their refuge. They will be blessed both spiritually and materially.

In the Holy Bible when we read the book of Ruth, we find her clinging to her mother-in-law and serving and supporting her with great respect. Although she was a Moabite, and a gentile, she could please God by her good works. Her commitment to her mother-in-law caught the eye of Boaz. Moreover, he had heard all about her selfless love towards Naomi. Thus, he said, “May the Lord repay your work and a full reward be given to you.”

Ruth’s name was specifically named in the genealogy of Jesus. Obed, the son of Boaz and Ruth became a part of the lineage of Jesus Christ. What an awesome life! Ruth was honoured duly. She became the great grandmother of David.

Friends, do we fear God and keep His commandments? Do we support and take care of the aged in our homes? Do we honour our parents and treat them with love, compassion and respect? It is sure and certain that as we do, so it will be done to us. How will our children find refuge? We must understand that the children find refuge because of the godliness of the parents. Let us submit ourselves to God and leave a legacy of blessings for our descendants. Let us pass a heritage of faith to our generations.
