Bible Study DID ELIJAH ASCEND TO HEAVEN?

If Jesus still had wounds that Thomas was invited to plunge his hand into, then I am sure He was fleshly...and we will be also...recreated in the twinlking of an eye in order that we can actually see the Father and not be destroyed by His glory.

Amen!

Now, let’s look at Elijah. In 2 Kings 2:11 we read that a chariot and horses of fire separated Elijah from Elisha. And then a whirlwind carried Elijah into heaven.

Interesting, the word in Heb., shamayim, is â€Âheavensâ€Â, plural, and from all its uses seems to be at least three things: God’s throne; the space, universe away from the earth; and the atmosphere, the air where birds fly, clouds form, from which rain falls, etc.

So, to say that Elijah was carried by a whirlwind to the Heaven of God, is, in my opinion, just an interpretation. It’s true, he was taken away and his body was never found. But to me, He was taken away from everyone and buried by the Lord, just as Moses was. As previously quoted, "And no man has ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven." KJV.

For Elijah (and also Enoch) to be carried without dying to God’s throne presents some problems:
As humans they would have not air to breathe, no food to sustain them, etc. But, you may argue, they were made immortal, with spiritual bodies that could see God.

Yet, Paul writes in 1 Tim.6:15,16, “Christ....the only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords; who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see..â€Â

In Romans 5:14 we read "Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses." QUESTION: If all, except Enoch and Elijah, from Adam to Moses died, could we say "death reigned"?

And further, if they were made immortal, or vivified, they would pre-empt Christ who is said to be the “first fruits†of all those being made alive (1 Cor.15:22). There can be no one â€Âmade alive to not die again†before Christ.

Now, let me say, all things are possible with God. But, I believe we must search His written record, and use our minds.

As a last thought, if they are immortal in God’s Heaven, and have been there for years, where will they be in the future? Enoch has no connection with Israel and her promises. Would he stay in the heavens and be with the church/body of Christ whose destiny is there?

And I suppose Elijah would come back down to earth to be in the Millennial Kingdom.

In conclusion, it only makes sense to me, that they died and were buried somewhere on earth, and will await a resurrection, Just as all who die.

Some of us are more loyal to tradition/pastor/Church teaches rather than what the scriptures shows.
