I think this verse may help answer your question:
Luke 2:52 And Jesus advanced in wisdom and age and grace with God and men. (DRV)
Luke 2:52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men. (KJV)

Being the perfect example of humility that he is, I'm sure Jesus never thought of Himself as superior enough not to thank someone for a drink or food or a place to sleep.
