Did Jesus preach to people in hell?

Where are these doctrines coming from "hell is empty" not from Gods word i can assure you of that. What book does a person read to get such a notion the name of the teacher that's teaching false doctrine?

tob
It comes from a plain reading of Scripture.

It depends on how you define "hell", but in general, between His crucifixion and resurrection Jesus announced to those held in the afterlife that He was the Messiah promised from the time of Adam and Eve's banishment.

Where does it say it is full? Where does it say that even one person is in it?

Revelation 20
13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.

That's not quite what that verse actually says, although it is one of the ones I expected. It highlights the main problem in discussions on hell: some versions, most notably the KJV, have unfortunately translated three different words as 'hell'. In the above, it is hades which is incorrectly translated as 'hell'.

Hades/Sheol are the same place. HELL.

Gehenna is a physical place located in the Valley of Hinnom.

Lake of fire is another place by which Hades will be thrown in.

Jesus never said God would destroy the soul in Gehenna, He said fear the one that is able to do so, and used it as a reference to Hades/Sheol/Hell.
though unlike Gehenna, the fire in Hades never goes out.

For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;
(1Pe 3:18-19)

Jesus suffered for sin................ Which means he went to Hades/Hell/Sheol.
He preached to spirits in Hades/Sheol/Hell. Who waited on the promise.

Hell had a gulf that separated from the fire and torment and where the righteous dead went. Jesus gave us a clear description of that.
What part of hell Jesus went, the scripture is not clear, could have been both. What is clear is he went through it all so we don't have to, and took the keys of Death and hell away from the devil, who had the power to put people there............ "Had"

Convenient how all those translators got it wrong.

Hades is the Greek equivalent of the Hebrew sheol, simply meaning the grave. Gehenna is the only one Jesus continually warned about and is therefore properly understood to be hell. Gehenna is likely a metaphor for the lake of fire.

Hades is not hell.

Let's stay on the topic of the OP. KJVOnlyism and derogatory comments toward translations of God's word are NOT the topic of this thread. If you want to discuss that, go to or start another thread in the appropriate forum.

If Hell is to remain empty, what is it's purpose?

If it is the lake of fire, which I believe it is, will it remain empty?

Gehenna, hell or the lake of fire is the place where the final punishment will take place. It is not Hades/Sheol, but rather all the dead in Hades/Sheol (whether you believe that to be spiritual realm or simply the grave) will be tossed into the lake of fire at the GWTJ.

Free and I don't agree about too much when it comes to the final punishment, but he is spot on regarding this.

Do you know for sure that it is the Lake of Fire?
.
No but it does seem to be a rational conclusion. All of Jesus' warnings were only about gehenna and, if I am not mistaken, often within the context of final punishment. This fits quite well with the lake of fire.

Glad I'm right about something at least. ;)

Luke 12
5 But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.

Matthew 5
22 But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.

Exactly. The word translated as 'hell' in those passages is gehenna, which is correct.
