Trackways and biomechanical analyses show that many dinosaurs were bipedal, some necessarily so. Others may have gone on all fours in certain situations, but did not have to do so.

The fossil record shows that the earliest dinosaurs were bipedal, with some later becoming quadrupedal because the became so massive.
