You need to be more precise in your terms of reference. Are you referring to the strata that form the Grand Canyon, or simply the Canyon itself. The strata of the Grand Canyon is made up of many different types of rock, some of which are 'harder' than others. It is not possible for the Grand Canyon to have been formed while the strata that compose it were in any sense 'soft' because of diagnostic features in the Canyon that can only be shaped in 'hard' strata: incised meanders.Dave Slayer said:
