Do Christians have to understand the prophecies of Revelation to make it through the end times?

There are many who believe that Revelation is not understandable and its prophecies of the end time of no use. But is that the case or is Revelation so important for the end times, that unless you have a comprehension of the time line and the symbology of Revelation figured out, you will be shaken out and lost at the end times. Notice whose revelation its is, and the blessing..

Revelation 1 King James Version

1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John:

2 Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw.

3 Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.

Is it possible that unless you discern what is in Revelation is unveiled to you, there will be events that you will not be prepared for and be deceived. Is it possible for people in the 21st century to not know who the 'beast' of Revelation is, and why prostitutes are riding it to not be deceived and find eternal life? Can they come out of Babylon if they dont understand who, what and why they have to come out of her in the Last Days?

Hi reddogs

I honestly don't think that anyone can categorically say that they understand all of the prophetic revelations found in the writings by that name. However, I believe that the Lord does expect us to be familiar enough with the prophecies that we do see them unfolding as they come into the present. I recall the words of Jesus as he entered Jerusalem the week of his death. He cried out to the people gathered to praise and honor him. The Pharisees were telling him to quiet them down. Instead he spoke to them,

As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it and said, “If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace—but now it is hidden from your eyes."

He expected them to know what was happening before their very eyes. He then continued,

"The days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side. They will dash you to the ground, you and the children within your walls. They will not leave one stone on another, because you did not recognize the time of God’s coming to you.”

Because you did not recognize the time of God's coming to you.

Because the Jews, through whom God had passed to all mankind His revelation of Himself to us. Which also contained the plan. The great plan of God's salvation that was going to be prepared before His enemies. That plan had been spoken of and widely shown by miracles and wonders to be happening as those people around Jesus were living and breathing and yet they didn't recognize a thing. As Jesus said, at this point God had hidden it from their eyes.

Jesus seemed to have expected the Jews in Israel to recognize that their deliverer had come. He was born of a virgin. Now, maybe a lot of people didn't discuss the purity of their wife much and so a lot of folks didn't know that she was a virgin. But I think we can pretty well assume that her sister knew. Elizabeth knew that the hand of God was working and I'm confident that Mary would have rejoiced in telling her the things that had preceded her pregnancy. But then we have an angel choir appearing in a pitch black sky singing praises to God and delivering the good news that had been proclaimed by the psalmist. And of course the hundreds of healings and other such miracles as taking coins out of a fish's mouth that people all over the country had seen and were talking about. And yet they didn't know.

Jesus literally stood up in the temple only three short years before he was to be put to death and told the men gathered there that the claims of Isaiah as to what the Messiah would be doing, were being fulfilled within their hearing. It was happening right now!!!! As you listen to my words!!!! Yet, they didn't know. But as Jesus told them, it had now been hidden from them. They couldn't believe him or understand him because God had muddled their thinking. Because God had a much greater plan for His Son. Israel wasn't supposed to make Jesus their king. Israel was supposed to perform the ceremony of the final Passover Lamb. And so they did. And though I'm assured that it cut God's heart to the quick to see His Son suffer as he did, it had always been the plan. Praise God!

So, I say all of that to say that I believe that just as much as Jesus seemed to expect God's people to understand his first coming, born again believers today will see the signs of his second. They will be able to see, as the miracles unfold, and the world scene continues its moving towards the future, the various prophecies fulfilled. Just as Jesus told those gathered in that synagogue, look and see that I am doing all the things that your Scriptures have told you to be looking for in the Messiah. So too, I expect that when Jesus returns the second time, he'll be expecting those who love him to know that it's time. Jesus spoke of a time when we will see something happen and know that it is time to look up, for our salvation draws near.

God bless,
Ted

Everyone who is obsessed with Revelation want to be assured of the future. Trying to discern the future is a common concern among most (if not all) people. But if anyone says you have to rightly understand the details of the future or else..., I would say they don't know what they are talking about. Some leaders are so obsessed with Eschatology, it seems cult-like in nature, and sometimes downright creepy. I've heard experts on the subject contradict themselves or the text of scripture. There are so many conflicting opinions about it - futurism, preterism, millennialism, idealism, historicism, and many offshoots of each - I think I can safely say that no one understands it. I call every teaching about the timeline an "eschatological construct." It's because they have pieced together bits and pieces of scripture to construct something that may or may not be true, and there is no way to confirm (or deny) any of it, until the end happens. I consider it an exercise in futility. Why be an expert in fantasy? Why not just read it and be encouraged, like the text of Rev. says?

Hey All,
There are a lot of people doing what is called "prepping" for the tribulation period right now. They are hoarding food and necessities by the ton. I am not sure how successful they will be, but a lot of people feel like something is coming.

I personally believe it may be a little early. But what do I know?

Keep walking everybody.
May God bless,
Taz

We need to prep SPIRITUALLY.

Matthew 24:24-25 For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. See, I have told you ahead of time.

Jesus told John this prior to him writing Revelation. Jesus is saying, in the end times, deception will run rampant, and it will be like trying to walk through a room full of smoke and mirrors, where you can't even see the back of your hand.

Stick to Christ's teachings which He gave you well beforehand: that is timeless, and not subject to the fads and culture of the times. That is your string He threw you long ago. Pull on that string, follow that string. You may not see the way out, but you know that string will lead the way. That is the reason Revelation and the Olivet Discourse are there, and were there 2000 years ago.

As far as food prepping, etc., that basically falls under something else Jesus told us:
Matthew 16:25 For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.

We are Biblically commanded to prep: just for the right things.

You need holy spirit. John chapter 15. Holy spirit will teach you all things. The hidden truth is hidden from some people. Some Christian people have scales on their eyes. Its blinders.

God put spirit of stupor on some people. Read Roman's chapter 11.

Revelation isn't taught by many churches. Because they can't understand it.
The seals of chapter 6 are out of chronological order.
The trumps of chapter 9 are in order.

Out of ignorance, some Christian people try to teach it. They are not trained by pastor. They are not qualified to teach God's word. In fact. They are misleading people.

Hebrews chapter 5 to document, the congregation should be teachers of God's word after 20 years. Sadly, many are still biblically illiterate. No spirtual growth.

To understand hidden truth of God's word. The holy spirit is needed.

We're in 5th trump and fourth seal.
The third seal is famine and inflation.
The fourth seal is beginning of sorrows, aligns with Matthew chapter 24. Like wars and rumors of wars. Get the picture.

We were in third seal for period of years. We reached new bench mark.

I won't debate or strive about this. I'm not replying back.

If one has ever took the deeper study in the book of Revelation, which means the unveiling, they will see that this book spans from Genesis to the last word in Revelation. I feel it is very essential like all the books in the Bible that we are not taken as a thief in the night when Christ returns on the last day.

We can allow ourselves to be deceived by all the many theories that are out there, but if we do not study for ourselves then we have no one to blame, but our self when the seven trumpets start to sound. Do we have to know all of it, no, but enough to know that of what must come first before the return of Christ.

That may be a second-order reason, but I think the most direct reason is because it is divisive (or perceived as divisive). And pastors don't want their churches to get divided. We'll even bring up lots of verses from I John, et. al. as to why not. I don't agree with it. Revelation is a book of the Bible, and we have left it out. Revelation is very clear what happens to anyone who leaves out one of the books in the Bible.

A lot of historicists, however (and your post suggests a historicist view), believe that one or more trumpets have already sounded, in the course of history.

Sorry, but my post does not nor did I say anything about the trumpets blowing yet, but we might possibly be in the breaking of the seals as being in the times of sorrow that Jesus spoke of in Matthew 24:1-8. Past history also has so much to do with it repeating itself in the end of days.

I agree.

Many are obsessed with Eschatology, it is very disturbing to me. We should more focused on the Lord, truth, obedience, sanctification and sharing the gospel.

While the book of Revelation is important, my comfort in the Lord's sovereignty and control of everything is truly what matters to me.

Anyhow, it is quite crazy to say the least.

Grace and peace to you.

All people need to understand about revelation is that despite all the dramatic 3vents portrayed, is that God is in control and that his will will prevail.

PLEASE ADDRESS THE THOUGHTS IN THE POST AND NOT THE PERSON .
1.3: Use self control and focus on reconcilliation when discussing differences. Address the issue, not the person. Do not make derogatory personal remarks or you will be removed from the thread.

Yes, out of the 66 books, Revelation is the only one that specifically says whoever reads and understands this book will be blessed.
