Your right DKC, I am just venting I suppose.

But anyone that smokes around a small child (especially in a car) should be beat with week old salami sticks until they pull their heads out.

I really get ticked when I see that.

In fact I probably will say something or scare a parent the next time I see that.

(I am 200 lbs and deadlift 450 lbs)

The only thing nastier is chewing tabacco.

I would say smoking is a sin. We are harming God's temple when we smoke. And hurting others when we smoke around them.

But still I dont hate the person, only the nasty habit.

by someoen smokign aroudn you, they put you at risk
by smoking themselves, they increase the amount of $ the USA has to spend on healthcare as age increases. that comes out of MY pocket, because I work.

I know, some people are all like "hate is such as trong word" ect. but cmon

hate the cigarette, not the smoker
hate the gun, not the shooter.

pick one, either hate smokers or start gun control!

I would be completely fine with outlawing smoking. :D My city has also outlawed smoking in buildings, oh what a happy day that was. But to eliminate the right to smoke completely isn't right either. I'm weary whenever people are taking away others rights. When they are in public or smoking in their kids faces that is an invasion of others rights, but a person has the right :-? to be an idiot and slowly kill themselves.

There are actually quite a few things that people do and are stupid. Like driving without a seatbelt, talking on cellphones while driving, speeding. All of these can cause injury and death, but I would guess that most of the people on this board probably do atleast 1 of these. Just a guess.
I'll even admit I do 2 of these.

Another good example, the second worst thing you could do for your health is being obese. But I bet there are many who still don't excercise or eat right. Do we hate them??? They cost us money in medical bills and disability pay so it is very similar. They lead by example and teach their children how to live a lifestyle that leads to obesity therefore affecting others too. But I still don't hate them either. I wish they would better choices.

i hate some fat people.
I despise my aunt.
she has been unemployed for 22 years now, mooching of the govt welfare system and SS because, after years of drinking, smoking, and other drug use, (not to mention she tips the scales at 289) she cant really walk atm. She is constantly having something medical done to her, to fix all teh crap she did to herself.

True, i think people can be stupid and kill themselves, BUT NOT OTHERS!
smoking in your own home, with no children, fine. btu dont EVER expect to receive govt money for health problems
want to not wear a seatbelt? fine! you get hurt, you are 100% liable.

i really hate how the US doesnt have Gym, or Phys ed, andymore in schoo (atleas tnot mine) we have, "get changed, walk ina circle, go to your activity, and talk with people" wher ea few jocks actually do participate.

I think everyone in their family has a relative like that unfortunately. :sad I have an entire side of my family like that.

I agree that phys ed should be in school, along with more health. But if a kid sees their lazy fat parents sitting at home there is little hope in teaching the kid at a young age. I learned to not smoke and exercise because my parents smoked and were fat, so I realized that I didn't want to be like that. But I think I'm an oddity, I rebelled against bad things.

BTW I saw you didn't mention speeding :-D

i wear a seatbelt, i always directional, i dont run red lights or stupsigns I dont even OWN a cellphone. i dont drink, yet, i do speed. why? because I find that i can do it 100% safely.

It must be nice to be God and know that you have a 0% change of crashing.

Something like 3,000 nonsmokers per year die of lung cancer.

Something like 40,000 people per year die in auto accidents.

A car accident takes a split second to cause someone's death---secondhand smoke takes literally thousands of hours around that person.

If dangerous activities need to be outlawed to prevent innocent death, then it is clear which of these two activities should be targeted.

Oh AMEN! It would certainly put a dent on our crude oil dependency too.

I would say smoking is a sin. We are harming God's temple when we smoke. And hurting others when we smoke around them.

The only sin we can commit against our own body (His Temple) is sexual immorality.

I'm not convinced smoking (in and of itself) is a sin.

I think it CAN be, but isn't necessarily in ALL cases.

My husband smokes..he has tried to quit but I think he is discouraged from even trying any more...it is hard for him... and now that I have Emphysema, he tries to smoke less but at least he is not smoking in our bathroom or bedroom any more...that helps..he only smokes in his computer room or outside......he's trying, so I don't say much...I'm afraid he will end up with what I have but it does no good to nag.

I never did smoke much but I did smoke in the early seventies. I quit in 1980 when I got saved but apparently I had already done the damage....at least that is What my DR. said..he didn't think it was from second hand smoke in my house...I was glad he let my DH off the hook for that..he thought it might have been his smoking that caused it. :)

I would agree that smoking in moderation may not be a sin, but I have never met anyone that smokes in moderation. So in 99.9% if cases it is a sin because of addiction.

Harming our bodies is still sin. If I stab myself, or hit myself with a bat that would be a sin as well. It would also make me an idiot of course.

OH, I forgot to say whether I think it is a sin or not.

I don't think it is a sin, but I do think it can hurt your witness for Jesus. ..you wouldn't drink a beer in front of those you are trying to witness to, because you know they would think you didn't have much creditibiliy. Most feel the same way about smoking....or being overweight...makes for a bad witness to others.

I don't think the Bible clearly says either is a sin...but over indulgence in drink can be as can overindulgence in food....

I think I am more inclined to think we need to worry more about gluttony since so many of the church going crowd are overweight....(too many dinners on the ground) :)

Php 3:18-19 For, as I have often told you before and now say again even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is on earthly things.

Idolatry (the worshiping of anything before God) is clearly a sin. This verse says that our stomachs can become our god. Eating can clearly be very sinful if we let our appetites rule us. So why come down so hard on the smokers? IT is all bad for your body.

You cannot call yourself a Christian and smoke cigarettes.

Smoking cigarettes is a form of Death Worship and is a cult.

Stop now and repent!

Sorry, just venting, I am done now.

Better than actually breaking some necks outside my dorm window so thx for the therapy session guys!
