I don't hate cigarette smokers, but I don't like it when they are inconsiderate of the non smokers around them.

On campus there are clear signs that say "Do not smoke within 25 feet of this building." Do they care? Nope. So I have to go to and from classes with the nasty, disgusting oder of cigarette smoke irritating my nose, throat, and lungs.

Yuck. :nono

Wow you found a real old post, names like Soma Sight, Homeskillet, KnarfKS are names that I have not seen or talked to in years, except for Judy. But anyway Feb the 3rd will be 3 years. Now those things stink real bad to me.

They are some of the most selfish people. They organize to die a young death so their children are not cared for when they need them. they endanger other health passive smoke. i usually tell them to put it out. restaurant food gets spoilt by the smell. Not a fan

I can say something about this subject now that I couldn't have said back in 2005.

In 2008, my father died of cancer of the esophagus. He was almost 75 years of age. He smoked cigarettes until the day before he died. He was a Christian and a member of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church, which really doesn't take stands on things like smoking or drinking.

I truly believed that he got the cancer from the cigarettes.

Then I met up with a dear old friend of mine whose father was instrumental in me becoming a Christian. He was a devout Assembly of God man most all his life, never drank, never smoked, ate a healthy diet. He died in 1999, of cancer of the esophagus. Same kind that killed my father. He was 9 years younger than my dad when he died, because they were the same age.

Turns out both Mr. Smith and Dad had hiatal hernias which contributed to chronic acid reflux, which increases the risk of esophageal cancer by a lot. I happen to have a hiatal hernia as well and get acid reflux quite often too, so I might wind up with the same cancer.

It would be easy to quickly judge Dad as being selfish or not taking care of his "temple" due to the smoking, but the smoking never caused him any particular health issues. As a matter of fact, he was one of the healthiest men I've ever known, up until the cancer.

It is rude for smokers not to be considerate of others. But, is smoking a cause for hatred?

Nope!!!!

you are so right it could be better worded love smokers but hate the habit. I stand corrected.

The difference now is unlike your dad those who start in the last 30 years know what they are doing to themselves and others via the media education on its health issues, that's what I meant by selfish. Young mum smoking around her babies. Its not fair!

Well this was a random thread to dig up. I thought for sure the OP was a joke. Hate smokers??? Really? Would anyone really take this thought this far? I'm about as anti-smoking as they come, but it's never crossed my mind to hate them for it. I can't believe someone would spend the money they do if it wasn't terribly difficult to kick the habit.

I've never smoked. But someone who has quit and looks down on the person who still smokes is really misplacing their judgment IMO. It's like when something clicks in someone's head, and they change their lifestyle, lose weight, and then run around wagging their finger at people overweight. :nono And I'm not overweight either, BTW. Just because someone succeeded in kicking the habit gives them no reason to look down on other who haven't.

So... looking back at the some of the posts made me laugh. The one poster was proud of himself/herself because they drove a Saturn which emits "less" emissions. Les emissions than what? Does someone who rides a bike to work get to hate on the Saturn owner? I've said a few times in different threads, and I'll take this opportunity again. I think it should be illegal everywhere for people to smoke with kids in the car. Poor kids. :shame Not only are they put at risk, but they end up smelling like smoke.

I hate tobacco smoke and I hate the ugly disease and carnage that it causes, but hate smokers? How can we hate people for their addictions? They need encouragement to lay down their love of tobacco and they need our unconditional love.

Why don't you just do the same thing, but only gophers instead? If you're not laughing, you're not product of the 70's/80's. :D

lol, caddyshack! no i hate golfing for a good reason , ornery geeezers that get drunk and or are very rude that golf. are all golfers like that , no

you try living in a county with 36 golf courses.

I hate being around smoking but I definitely don`t hate smokers. Some smokers can be incredibly great people but just have a bad habit.

Well on this issue my views in theory resemble you christian folks.

I hate smoking.
I don't hate smokers.

Your right DKC, I am just venting I suppose.

But anyone that smokes around a small child (especially in a car) should be beat with week old salami sticks until they pull their heads out.

In fact I probably will say something or scare a parent the next time I see that.

(I am 200 lbs and deadlift 450 lbs)

Wow, I don`t think that would be wise to walk up to a stranger and start telling them off or trying to scare them especially since they have the legal and Constitutional right to smoke. Considering your size if you walk up to a woman and do that she could take it as a threat and call the police on you. If you do it to a man you may have a fight on your hands. Besides I don`t think it is the Biblical thing to do. Moreover it will solve nothing. All it would do would scare the little kid, anger the parent, and possibly get you in trouble, but it would not stop the parent from smoking.

Ugh! can't stand cigarette smoke - have to stand as far away as possible from annoying smokers who stand at bus stops - why are they always starting a fag when I arrive instead of finishing?. Banned only in enclosed public places - they should be banned period! Then all of us can breathe lol ...
