Do You Hop From Church To Church ?

Christians ought to be part of a church. To not be is, well, I'll stop short for now of calling it sin, but it isn't good. That is not to say it is wrong when one doesn't go for a period of time, for various reasons, but going to church, being in fellowship and communion with other Christians is essentially a sign that one is a Christian.

:) I think you might get some flak for that one. Not from me, but it does strike me that one might not need a 'sign' to be a true christian.

And here comes the Flak.... Just because someone goes to church, that does'nt make them a Christian.

My apologies...I was not trying to refute your entire argument but was instead using a snippet in conjunction with another poster's remarks.

I agree that church, whether it be a building or a congregation of souls, can be very important. But I still disagree with you on how or whether we should judge people's reasons for going. As you said, God knows the heart...let's let Him look at it without our interference.
Yes, my friend.

It's called "discharging a religious obligation" and that's just all kinds of wrong!

I went throuh a VERY long spell of not going to church. I shopped/hopped for some time but nothing was clicking. I DID spend many Sunday's having my own church in my living room. Did that make me less of a Christian? Absolutely not. I can't ven say it won't happen again.

I think the main thing is that we are always looking to have a deeper relationship with God. Sometimes it's in a Sunday service...sometimes it's me, my Bible and a praise & worship tape.

When I was out, looking back now, I feel that I was being a "disobedient" child.
And God disciplined me.

I think it's mainly about being in fellowship with fellow believers that will encourage you and strengthen you in your walk, That can;t really happen in your living room, even though someone can get saved there

Yes, I agree with that.

Sister...Let me correct you...''Just because someone goes to church, that does'nt make them ''heaven bound''''.....

Lets take a look at some scripture shall we...

Mark 1:21 Then they went into Capernaum, and immediately on the Sabbath He entered the synagogue and taught. 22 And they were astonished at His teaching, for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

23 Now there was a man in their synagogue with an unclean spirit. And he cried out, 24 saying, "Let us alone! What have we to do with You, Jesus of Nazareth? Did You come to destroy us? I know who You are-the Holy One of God!"

25 But Jesus rebuked him, saying, "Be quiet, and come out of him!" 26 And when the unclean spirit had convulsed him and cried out with a loud voice, he came out of him. 27 Then they were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, "What is this? What new doctrine is this? For with authority He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey Him." 28 And immediately His fame spread throughout all the region around Galilee.

So here we not only have a man who was in the synagogue [church] but was also demon possessed.... :o

To be frank, I believe we have many Pastors, priest, bible teachers today that are demon Possessed...

And that is not what I was trying to say. Everyone who is a Christian ought to go to church but not everyone who goes to church need be a Christian. A sign of one's professing their belonging to Christ is going to church.

But it is far more than that. The answers I have seen so far have been mostly what one should expect from the modern, Western Church. It is often out of sync with the early Church and what the Bible reveals.

In Acts all the believers had all things in common. In 1 John (if I remember correctly) our love and fellowship for each other is a sign of the truth of the gospel for the unbeliever.
