Growth Do you Tie your Security with Money?

“Look at the birds of the air, for the neither sow not reap nor gather into barns; yet you heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not or more value than they are?” (Matthew 6:26) NKJ

Does money equal security for you? When you have money are you secure and when you don’t have it do you feel insecure? I am very familiar with this one. I get very stressed when I don’t have money. These feelings go all the way back to my childhood. My dad horded money because he was always afraid he would not have enough of it. I inherited a belief that a world without money is an insecure world. But is this true? Is my security literally dependent on money?

No, it should not be. It should be dependent on my creator to provide for me. He always does. He also gave me a brain, a strong body, creativity, and a calling to empower me to be successful in life. The Lord gave me an inherent power to create a meaningful and important life. When I worry about money and feel that is it my security it takes away my ability to focus on that power and His power. When I take my focus off God, His ability to provide, and the abilities that He gave me, he can't work like He is supposed to in my life because my thoughts.

Thoughts are very powerful things. They define who you are. There is a saying, "Whether you believe you can or you can't, your right." If your mind is stayed on Jesus then you can do anything, even walk on water, but if you take your mind off His ability to provide then you will sink into the stormy waters.

Matthew 27:6 says, “Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?” Worrying about money will not add anything to our lives. It only makes us have a lot of sleepless nights and takes years off of our lives.

So, does the lack of money do this to you? Does it stress you out so much that you don’t sleep?
If so, join me on Wednesday, February 12, at 6:00PM PT and 9:00PM ET, for a money talk. Maybe we can figure this out together. The number is 1-877-311-2088. The code to get in is 876006#.

I used to stress over money, but rarely anymore. Things have a way of working out, even before I walked with the Lord it seemed. Stressing doesn't help one whit. Having faith does. I do pretty good at this now, and have even been told that I act like I don't care because I don't stress like I used to. :)

Security isn't in money. I get into quite a few different homes to work, and I hear the background talk. Rich people are not worry free. They have more money problems than the poor. More irons in the fire, more overhead. I have more trouble collecting from rich people than poor people. Poor people will ask if they can make payments, rich people try to say I did something wrong. There's more honor among the poor.

I'm looking to get a degree so I can get a decent job and not only have money of my own, but probably enough money to live at some level of middle-class life. I've started questioning if this is really a good idea but then...I think...what's my option? I feel I either have my people behind me, do what I need to do to get a decent job, or I'll be incredibly vulnerable. I have life experiences that would seem to confirm that, but I wasn't a Christian then.

The love of money is the root of evil. I Tim. 6:10, 11.

I

I really struggle with the insecurity of not having money. I love the Lord much more than I love my money, but it is a real issue with me. My husband and I have a couple of businesses that we earn money from. The money always comes in so I don't know why I worry.

The most important thing is where does the Lord want you to be. If He wants you to be in the job, by all means pursue it, if not He has another path for you. In today's economy having a degree doesn't get as much as it did 20 years ago. My son got out of a prestigious business school with a bachelors in business and spent three years of his life stacking coke for a living. He finally got a better job but it wasn't because of the degree it was because of his work ethic.

Where the Lord wants you is where you will be the happiest and most blessed.
