IMHO slavery to men has hints that point to a much higher spiritual meaning. This thread has lightly brushed on the topic (metaphysical - meaning beyond / greater than physical)
Romans 1:1
Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God,
This mention of being a slave of Christ is not a bondslave.
But after:
Exodus 21:5
And if the servant shall plainly say, I love my master, my wife, and my children; I will not go out free:
6 Then his master shall bring him unto the judges; he shall also bring him to the door, or unto the door post; and his master shall bore his ear through with an aul; and he shall serve him for ever.
Colossians 4:12 is speaking of bondslave.
you, a servant of Christ, saluteth you, always labouring fervently for you in prayers, that ye may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God.
Joseph was a slave and exalted to a high position. Daniel was a slave and exalted to a high position.
Could it be that when we get over ourselves, have our ear bored.....:
