Does Anything Compare to Wisdom?

13 Blessed are those who find wisdom,
those who gain understanding,
14 for she is more profitable than silver
and yields better returns than gold.
15 She is more precious than rubies;
nothing you desire can compare with her.

(Proverbs 3)​

I wonder about these wise words of Solomon. Is it really true that nothing compares with wisdom? What about love? What about God?

24 You guide me with your counsel,
and afterward you will take me into glory.
25 Whom have I in heaven but you?
And earth has nothing I desire besides you.
26 My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart
and my portion forever.

(Psalm 73)​

Someone please help me think this through.
 
Solomon is talking of Godly wisdom. Not education. Godly wisdom allows man to understand which kind of love is to be applied ( meaning the kind hearted type or the 2 by 4 type) and anything in between.

A scripture word search of 'wisdom' is pretty explanatory.
 
Which falls in line with what I've heard that wisdom is defined as 'the application of knowledge'.

Biblical wisdom is moral wisdom. The wisdom of personal conduct, with the implication that it is applied to one's daily living, not simply possessed. IOW, acting in accordance with moral wisdom is just as much a part of the definition of godly wisdom as the wisdom itself is.

Thanks, Reba. I ask because I wonder. You see, I desire God's love. But Solomon says:

[Wisdom] is more precious than rubies;
nothing you desire can compare with her.

(Proverbs 3:15)

Does this mean God's love does not even compare to godly wisdom?

Trying to wrap my head around what you said. Isn't the application of knowledge what one does, but not what one knows?

Consider this example: There is common knowledge that if one's clothes catch fire, she should stop, drop and roll to extinguish the flames. If you saw someone on fire rolling across the floor, would you later say what you witnessed was wisdom, or would you instead say you witnessed the result of a wise decision?

Wisdom is the Spirit of God.

God is Love.

common sense isn't so common sense these days. why just look at the government and well society in general. we call virtue bad and vice good. we call being fat bad but call fornication and so forth good.

Indeed! And is God's wisdom, perhaps an uncommon, or rare, or divine knowledge? Or is it uncommon, or rare, or divine action?

Consider this example: Jesus said,

"Greater love has no one than this: That he lay down his life for his friends."

(John 15:13)

So when John saw Jesus suffering crucifixion, did he think Jesus' dying for him was wisdom? Or did he think Jesus' death was the result of wisdom?

True, Jason. So do you suppose godly wisdom is uncommon or divine knowledge? And what about love? Is there a common kind as well as a divine kind?

One as the Father and Son are and as you and I should be? Or one as in the same?

20 “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, 21 that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one..."

(John 17)

7 For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one. 1 John 5:7

But wisdom is justified by all her children.

Not sure I understand your answer to the question, JLB. If you are a Oneness Pentecostal, for example, you might take that passage to mean the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are all the same person. If you are of some other denomination, you might believe the passage means they are one God in three different persons.

I'm wondering if you believe love and wisdom are one and the same virtue or two different, but inseparable virtues. What's your best opinion? (Don't fear being wrong. I'm often mistaken. But I often learn a great deal from my mistakes.)

Wisdom is a Spirit. The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him, The Spirit of wisdom... Isaiah 11:2

God is a Spirit. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth." John 4:24

God is Love. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. 1 John 4:8

The Father, The Word and The Holy Spirit are One.


My Opinion: Jesus is the expression of Love and Wisdom.

I have learned not that I demonstrate it perfectly. that overall without Christ the person doesn't know how to love. today its perverted into what is in it for me. we have redefined marriage from a loving man and women to two partners making a contract of having sex and if they want its a bit more.

Yes, so do you think godly wisdom defines love correctly, as love truly is? And does this divine understanding know how one should and should not love?

I gave you my opinion on this matter.

Jesus is the expression of the fullness of both Wisdom and Love.

In Him Love and Wisdom are One.

In Him the fullness of The Godhead dwell.
