    Strengthening families through biblical principles.

Focus on the Family addresses the use of biblical principles in parenting and marriage to strengthen the family.

does marriage contracts exist in bible?

We know that to not be true because Joseph sought to divorce Mary while only pledged to be married to her. That indicates that he was bound to her.

Whether he was bound by legal contract or word of oath we do know. We just know there was some form of 'contract' that bound him to her in marriage that required him to divorce her even though they were only pledged to be married. As I pointed out, a pledge signifies the presence of some kind of contractual obligation to marry her.
Actually we do. Any formal word for word translation will not say "pledged" but "betrothed." That means a signed ketubah.

Then there was a contract.

Step 2: Betrothal
When the couple got to be about 11 or 12, the 2 families would sit down and negotiate out a contract (the Ketubah)

And so the answer to the OP is 'yes'.

My family use of the word Schul was very implicit that it was different then a temple or synagogue.it had the synagogue but not all Synagogues have schools to teach k to 12.

My family attended a Jewish learning center that wasn't part of their own historic temple .that deserves it's thread as the first Jewish temple in America is in Savannah,ga.

My dad's photo of his days in schul learning Torah list that as such despite that it was the same place as his Synagogue.

That is what my conservative Jewish family said about that word.

My wife and I took a year-long set of classes at a Conservative synagogue in Indiana. What I said was what that rabbi taught. He said the Yiddish word "schul" was from the German word for school originally, but in present day US, can refer to any synagogue.

Well, you know, 3 Jews and 4 opinions.

I am not sure that was what the OP question was. I took it as a marriage contract being directly addressed (if not stipulated and described) in Scriptural text; not just an oblique reference.

Only the Ashkenazi use Yiddish .it would be interesting as I do have some Sephardic Jewish kin and see what they call it

I have not heard of a Ladino equivalent to "schul." From the Sephardic sites I have looked at, they only use "synagogue."

Although prenuptial agreements are not mentioned in the Bible, God does tell us how we are to view marriage, and from that we can figure how . When God is one of those parties, it is a very serious contract, a sacred agreement.
