Wormwood will happen, but won't the events in Revelation 6 happen first? The 4 horsemen, and then unsaved people doing this:

"And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains;

I see Revelation in rather poetic imagery that can be found in other places in the Bible, especially in the OT. Such as where the destruction of Babylon/Tyre is spoken of in Isaiah 14, use the imagery of the light bearer, satan, in the fall. Destruction yes but not by actual planetary stars.
There's at least 4 books where the use wormwood as a punishment spoken to Israel if she is apostate. So when Israel was apostate she was overrun, taken for slaves, death, etc. but there was never literal wormwood. The wormwood represented the bitterness or severity of the punishment. Deut., Jer., Lamentations, and Amos., there may be more. (dead fish spoiled the water in Egypt)
That's just my thoughts on it. Scriptural symbolism explaining symbolism in other places in scripture.
Psalms is another place full of this type of imagery and prophecy, too.

Yeah it may well be imagery about something else that causes the death but the interesting thought of the plagues upon Pharaoh/Egypt come to mind. Plus a vision I had a while back.
