Dr. Gene and Pastor Scott

I was coming off the mountain at Victorville one night when it started snowing. There was just barely enough snow to almost cover the ground. It wasn't even sticking to the road.

Highway Patrol started shutting hiways down, people were being pulled off to the side of the road. They made a major deal out of less than half an inch of snow.

As soon as the CHIPS car got out of my way, I went on down the mountain. By the time I got to San Bernadino and Riverside, it was just raining. But it was also morning rush hour. :o

Hey tim_from_pa, so, being an old fan (not a reference to your age of course) of Dr. Scott, what do you think about some of the reforms Melissa is implementing in their church?

Well, I'll be honest. I do not know too much about Melissa. My first impression watching her (before I knew Doc was dead) was not a favorable one. I did not think she could teach well, either that or she was trying to immitate Doc in some way. My brother and I watched her on the internet some and we did not get a good feeling about her. I basically have not listened to Doc for years, and he seemed more eccentric in his latter years. Most of his radio shows (WWCR) were repeats and were not live any longer, and I started knowing the messages by heart--- it seems there were excessive reruns for many years, and hence I lost interest. Don't get me wrong. I think the core message of Doc was right on target and I have fond memories of listening to him. Nowadays I get my teeaching by self study. He started the ball rolling, but I'm an individualist personality and do not like clinging to anyone after awhile.

What specific reforms does she have going in her church? I heard there was a mass exodus after Doc died.

Oh, I was just thinking of what jgredline posted earlier. Melissa recognizes that homosexuality is a sin and she is against the WOF movement. It seems she might be "cleaning it up" in general also. As long as its not in a legalistic way, I think its probably good.

I'm not sure Doc ever thought homosexuality was OK--- he was just accepting of the people coming into his church since they were rejected elsewhere. In other words, he did not believe one has to "clean up" first to be saved, which is correct. But I distinctly remember Doc joking about a question posed to him regarding homosexuality, and he stated it should be like prayer---- keep it in the closet. I took that as a humorous remark that if one does not (yet) have the strength to change, to not openly flaunt it until they can change. However, like I stated, he was accepting of them.

As for WOF movement, I cannot imagine Doc ever embracing that at all. I think that movement is synonymous with those grinning preachers he used to hate so much. WOF has one's own self interest at heart "name it and claim it" and Doc definitely was against that stuff by quoting such scripture as Eph 1:9 Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself. I remember Doc asking, "Whose good pleasure?"

I'm amazed at how much I remember about him after all these years!

However, I will agree that Doc's lifestyle was very eccentric (has nothing to do with faith or lack thereof). For those without discernment, that was a turn-off. I think his belief about that was that if people look at the superficial stuff and cannot see the substance of his teaching, they would probably not be saved anyway. Nevertheless, IMO, he was showy, albeit he did contribute a lot to charities I heard. That part never came out or is heard about too much.

Actually right before he died, he had the mayor of San Francisco on his show and right then and there, he said he believes people were born homosexual and so therefore it would not be a sin for those......This caused such a stir in is church that many folk left and two months later he was dead...Many said it was God that struck him dead...This is why Mellissa, bless her heart took a stand ''against''homosexuality.....

Gene Scott was a strange duck. If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, it must be a duck. :-?

Then he must have changed, either that or kept quiet all these years about it. Dr. Scott was not one to speak much about morality. He always took an interest in the same things I do, the lost ten tribes of Israel, Great Pyramid, stars, UFOlogy (and how that related to demonic activity), paranormal and the like. With "orthodox" teaching, he was big on the communion (he believed as I do that it could be kept in the home), faith, and giving (incl. tithing). His interesting potpourri took one's mind on an adventure and was a lot more interesting than run-of-the mill stuff one hears out there today which I find boring.

However, like I said, he very well could have gotten more eccentric over the years---- that's what I noticed anyway. You'd think with a mind that gets that deep into such intellectual topics that it would have kept him normal and sharp instead of eccentric!
