Earth Day idiocy - from 40 years ago

Take a look back with me, see what I was being taught in 6th grade?

http://www.ihatethemedia.com/fiftee...nmentalists-get-it-so-wrong-on-earth-day-1970

“Dr. S. Dillon Ripley, secretary of the Smithsonian Institute, believes that in 25 years, somewhere between 75 and 80 percent of all the species of living animals will be extinct.â€
• Sen. Gaylord Nelson
“We have about five more years at the outside to do something.â€
• Kenneth Watt, ecologist
“The world has been chilling sharply for about twenty years. If present trends continue, the world will be about four degrees colder for the global mean temperature in 1990, but eleven degrees colder in the year 2000. This is about twice what it would take to put us into an ice age.â€

Much more at the link.

It would be hilarious, if they still weren't pushing many of the same things.

It's sort of like Crazy Camping...always predicting the end of the world, just pushing out the date when each previous one is met.

Yeah I never got Earth day... Why celebrate a floating hunk of rock when you can celebrate the guy who made said rock!

Maybe they should just... :readbible

Hardly scare tactics since we are laughing at them.

Where did they want the populace? Are we there yet?
We weren't laughing in high school science class in the 70's.

I think we ARE where they wanted us - we have millions of people who are now willing to follow the EPA and other organizations' silly rules and over-reactions.

I'm all for clean water and clean air, and the EPA has sure done some good in this world. However, the nonsense over the spotted owl and snail darter (to name just two) is idiocy.

Yeah we are pretty much there...

Buy cars that cause more harm then good, and in the name of the environment.
Agreeing with lies just because you don't want to appear "lame".
Passing harmful laws in order to protect something that isn't even being harmed.
Declaring that all breathing creatures are exhaling poison...
Global bills that would literally cripple ever economy that agrees to them.
Lock step agreement in the face of undeniable proof.

...yeah, we're there. It's just a matter of "OK, now what?".

Well, maybe Mr. Watt had something there...I mean, here it is, April 26th and we are in the middle of another freaky blizzard out there. I couldn't believe it...when I drove the kids down to the bus, it looked like the dawn of a beautiful day, and drove home in what would have been white-out conditions if there had been any snow on the road. Even with the road clear and the hills green, it was still hard to see. There's already about an inch on the deck and it's still coming down. Global warming, eh!?!

I WANT SPRING!!!!!!:bigcry

When I was in second grade, I had an alarmist teacher that had me going home crying one day because the food shortage was going to get so severe that by 1980 we would not have any more food. I even tried comforting a fellow classmate who was crying and I said, "Don't worry. That's a long time and we'll be as old as 21 by then!" :lol

My mom went in fuming and reamed my teacher out and my teacher was all apologetic.

These leftist alarmists never learn. The mantra is the same today and I'm tired of hearing it. They cried "wolf" too many times.

Here in GA, we've seen upper 80's, but today it barely got to 66F and was in the 40's this morning! We are having a spring that just won't yield to summer. Usually, it's 90F by now.

No, I'm not complaining, but I can see why you ARE!

It has subsided, but remember the rising fuel prices and all the eco-green propaganda that shortly followed.

I remember. :nono2 By now, oil was supposed to be run out, many resources were supposed to be rare and expensive, etc.

They will NEVER give up coming up with the next crisis, and we'll never run out of people willing to believe in it.

The only positive thing from all their crisis' is that the more of them that inevitably fail, the more that they lose credibility. :yes
