Easter

What do you all think about when you think about Easter?
Easter or Resurrection Sunday?

Easter and the traditions that come with it such as The Easter Bunny and Egg hunts is a celebration of the goddess of fertility, and Christians should take no part in it at all.

Resurrection Sunday is the celebration of the Resurrection of Christ and should be the most Holy day of the Christian's year.

We should as true believers in the resurrected Christ not intermingle the two.

It is love and peace that I am more interested in, than a certain time or day of the year.

Understand ?
Not really. I don't understand why a Christian would not want to observe important days in the Christian calendar.

Hi Free

Well it is this way. My faith is based upon the scriptures and this is what I believe - Galatians 4:9 & 10 & 11.

I do not observe days , times, months or years. Every day is the same to me. I esteem every day alike in the Lord.

My final thoughts on the subject:

I enjoy celebrating Easter, up to and including dying eggs with the kids and jelly beans. (Can't do the chocolate. :verysad )

I totally respect anyone who chooses to observe and emphasize only the resurrection of Jesus and call it Resurrection Sunday.

I totally respect anyone who eschews any special observations period, looking at every day as being unto the Lord.

I get very saddened though when I see others take a judgmental view or accuse anyone who celebrates Easter or Christmas or any other day as being paganistic and call their status as a true believer into question. This is not an area that we should allow Satan to divide us over and no one should be judging anyone because of it.

then why the name of easter ? where is that from? astart. lewis posted a thread on that.
And yet, in many countries, they use their word for "Passover" instead of the English "Easter."

i can take or leave all christian holidays for we should celebrate them in spirit daily. what good is it to celebrate easter and not know christ and or live it daily.
I agree.

what good is it to only give to the poor on christmas and thanksgiving only?
I'm not sure what this has to do with the topic.

And of course, in context, Paul is referring to observing the Jewish days of the Law as a means to salvation.

As do I but yet that does not mean that some days aren't more significant than others and that we shouldn't observe them.

Agreed.

Totally agree, Dora. :amen

I am interested as to why some would celebrate "Resurrection Sudnay" and not "Good Friday". I cannot for the life of me understand why someone would not want to celebrate Jesus' death.

Ishtar was the Babylonian goddess of war and fertility.

If you notice some of the symbol of Easter: eggs (symbolize fertility), bunnies (symbolize fertility).

Easter is another pagan holy day (holiday).

.

Just because we enjoy some colored eggs on the Lord's Resurrection Day, and just because we enjoy having a Christmas tree at home and bless one another with gifts and presents, log cakes, egg nogs and turkey feasts as we commemorate the Lord's birthday ... it does not mean that we are observing some pagan festivals.

There is a pagan festival going on every single day in any part of the world, on some days there are more than one pagan festival going on in countries like India. If you celebrate your birthday which happens to fall on the same day as a pagan festival, does it mean you are celebrating your birthday, or does it mean you are observing the pagan festival ?

Let's not hypocritically align our mindsets with cults like Jehovah Witnesses that will use any excuse to avoid celebrations of any kind ... while neglecting something much more important - the true gospel of Jesus Christ !

WE are christians and should act like christians . We should not act like pagans by adopting paganistic ways, and then incorporate them into the christian way of life.

Be a Christian and act like a Christian. There is no logical reason whatsoever to continue to do as the pagans do. We should understand where certain paganistic ideals came from and then put them away from a Christian way of life. We are suppose to be an example unto the world of a christian way of life, not a paganistic way of life. There is no logical reason to cut down an evergreen and call it a Christ - mas tree. Christ died on a green tree. He was not born under a green tree that had been cut down and decorated with pagan symbols. The balls on a tree are just as paganistic as the so called easter eggs are. Isn't it about time the Christian community recognize this, and put this all away, as it is not a good example unto the world of a Christian way of life ?

Let's not behave like fanatical or legalistic Christians who think that they are self-righteous based on what or what is not brought into homes. Are any of the things mentioned above worshipped or offered to idols before they are sold in shops and used by people today ? ... For all you know, you may be keeping something big or small in your own house that was prayed over by pagans before it was sold to you ! Make no mistakes, things that look clean and innocent sometimes have demonic forces behind them, like paintings for example !

See what's happening here: we are quick to defend pagan holy days but felt no shame for disobeying the Lord's holy day. WOW!

i celebrate christmas, but i know of the origin of the tree. but if we are do that. all the way. we best not use these days.
thursday(thor'sday)friday(friga'sdays), monday(moonsday).saturnsday(saturday).sunday(son'sday) as in the son.all borrowed from the norwegian and other pagan culture.

let us not be soo legalistic on this as i can go on with the months to.
and so on.

Holiness comes from the heart .... and you can start by quit being judgemental !

"Let this mind be in you, which was in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 2:5). Jesus did not tell us to keep pagan holy days, he told us not to break God's law. But are we defending the creator's holy day? NO! We are quick to defend Satan's evil holidays.

Hi Jason

As it is true what you are saying. For even Paul circumcised Timothy because of the Jews. It was not Paul who wanted to circumcise Timothy. But because of the Jews who still believed in the law. And the fact that these paticular Jews were also a part of the law of the land. This is why there was so much persecution from the Jews.

The days of the week and names of the months, as you point out, are from paganism. Yet, if I were to say this happens on the month of abib , almost no one would know what I was talking about.

However, calling the Passover - Easter is a choice by Christians, to call this time of the year Easter or the Passover. The majority call this Easter. Not because it is important to get the message accross. But becasue it is by choice to be as the world, and call this time of year by its pagan roots. Which would indicate a pagan time of year, instead of a Christian time of year.

Can you just imagine God watching and listening to Christians calling the Passover -- Easter ? World -- or Godly ?

At the very least, circumcision was of God, but under the law. The passover is of God, and Easter is only of paganism. We are not even suppose to put ourselves back under the bondage of the law, let alone celebrate the Passover, and call it Easter.

I am not a legalist either. But I am a realist.

we arent obligated to celebrate the passover no,

ressurection sunday is the best, btw all this debate over a name, lets us remember this that he died for us.

i want to celebrate the passover as its my heritage as i am hebrew, but it would to understand the passover and how its pioints to the cross.

I think some of us grew up in the tradition of celebrating the resurrection of Jesus at a time called "Easter". We had no clue what that meant, all we knew was this great thing that God did for us through His son. It mostly just made us reflect more upon the fact that we serve a risen God. Now if you think God is going to look on that and frown you are dead wrong! He looks at the heart of man, while man judges the outward appearance, but aren't you glad that God is God and that man isn't!!!?

I wouldn't dare stop anyone from giving God glory no matter what claim to fame some demon thinks he owns. What is a pagan holiday anyway? Nothing but a lie. The earth is the Lords and the fullness thereof!!
