Electronic Media and Chilldren

After reading through the Avatar thread in CE, I decided to make this thread.

A point made in said thread was about children and messages. We can use this for music, video games, movies, or the internet. Chilldren don't have the life experiance or the maturity to understand all that is around them, or adult humor and entertainment.

Personally I belive this is where the parents and the school system combined should come in and balance out the child's perception.

We need to stop blamming the media for making out kids do bad things. Its not the fault of the media or its creator. When the creator or media is blamed, all responsibility is removed from both the parents and the school system.

This is also how I feel about censorship. Let th viewing or listening be judged by maturity, not a number. If the parents can't handle explainng things to their chilldren, then the adaquecy of the parent needs to be assesed.

Re: Electonic Media and Chilldren

for the most part i agree. I just wish the radio stations would have some means of controlling what is foul ever listen to some of these secular stations, if i had kids boy some of those dj's would be tapping out!
obviously a kid under the age of 18 shouldnt listen to howard stern or the like or talk radio(Love docs or john boy and billy in the morning) though the later isnt all that bad, well execpt that reverend turnorburn. The songs on jackfm are mainly 70's to 2005 with some curse words. If one wants totally clean then one has to listen to either christain radio and or npr stations. Some of the lite rock stations have gotten a little foul mouthed lately. At least in my neck of the woods.

I have the same habit. I just noticed the misspelling in one of my siggies. :bigfrown

This site ought to have spell check.

I'm going to go back to using Firefox, auto spell Check. :)

On topic.

Your comment about the radio. I think this is where we differ. I think the radio should be free of cencorship and that anything should be able to get on the radio I think if a kid hears somethingh and asks the parent, its the parent's job to explain what is being said, or find a way to explain that the situation may not be acceptable for them.

When I was a kid, I listened to some sleazy music, but I didn't get it or really care. When I was a teen, I realized what the songs where about and laughed I didn't notice it before. :P

When one has no choice to listen the likes of kid rocks song that glorifies drug use. You either avoid it or say even though the beat is good, and that was the it was in the 70's and 80's dont do drugs.Talk about mixed messages.

I would rather not listen to the radio at all then or have an option. In Ga and TN there's that option called the Fish . It plays only christian music and it is commercially run with no preaching and is heard for from Atlanta to Nashville. I think that some stations should stop seing the green and think about the content. I guess you dont like the fcc either.

Every heard of the movie and comic Heavy Metal? I watched that one at age of ten along with my bro and we never told my parents. Should a child and parent watch that one together if that was broadcasted on prime time. With the way tv is nowadays it wouldnt suprise me.

With radio it could provide some cleaner options then the beep beep beep and call that music.I used to be like you in that thiking but when i got more into holiness i felt that too much sin is being promoted and its to the point that even prime time is showing sleaze that 20 yrs ago would get execs fired!

I agree there should be options and that artistic expression should also get radio air as well. Yeah I HATE the FCC. There are very few things I hate, but they are near the top of my very short list. To me, its not freedom of speach, when you have to Ok your speach through a group.

I've seen both movies but never got into the comic. The first one was really interesting and a work of art in itself, but the second one was something I jokingly call "action Porn", :lol No, I'm not sugesting that Parents and chilldren should sit and watch it together, but that the parents should be more observant of what their kids watch, and be prepared if the kid dose see something that wouldn't fit their maturity level. The parents should be able to decide when their kid is responsible enough to be able to obsorb entertainment. :yes

[/quote:33f4nlk9][/quote:33f4nlk9]Well I don't listen to to much public radio and watch tv because of the crappy programming. Internet radio and youtube for me.

the fcc regulates far more than you think ever wonder why the fm starts at 87.5 and ends at 107.9 fm. The military has the lower bands and the higher i'm not sure.

The fcc also regulates the signal strenght of electronic devices. I had a neighbor that had a ham radio that could over power pc's , tv's and gaming devices. He was eventually fined for that.

I dont call the original Heavy Metal art anymore. It has some porn to it. Btw the writer was shut down for the promotion of kiddie porn and incest for a while. So i hear.

Some things ought to ppv only and that should hard to acess.

Personally I just want them out of my music and movies, really. They can do what they need to do, but censorship should take a hike.

I really don't care to much about the artists personal life, out side of what they wish to share with us. To me as long as the art itself isn't illegal, the guys personal life is his business and not mine. I can enjoy entertainment without condoning a person's stance. ;)

I call Heavy Metal Art becuase the animation used durring the time and the way the story in the movie was told was really interesting and pioneering.

Lance, i edited the spelling on the name of the post you forgot the r.

There's only one L in children,lol.

Anyway, I closely monitor what my kids watch and listen to also what games they play. They would spend 12hrs a day on their DS's if I would let them. I should hope that most parents are that prudent.

I agree Lance, it's up to the parents to watch their kids in what they're doing. Hopefully the parents have Christian values.

The radio one is a bit harder, but the radio stations here bleep out swear words, which is good.

They should be proactive, but even now in america the sex scenes have become near pornographic. There was an atrticle in the usa today on that. Curse words are bleeped out but what about the talk radio and the music that has dj's that work their way around that. Once talk about porn without using offensive words.

Heres it is.. that is what i'm talking about what do you want us to do when its like this, shut off the cable etc.

http://www.usatoday.com/life/television ... 0_CV_N.htm

that is why i stopped watching tv.
Actually this article helps my agrument. RIght now I'm going to expand my stance and fully explain what I'm talking about and even inject some psychology and sociology into this.

The article basicly took all the responsibility away from us and put it on a faceless thing called the Media. Its not the collective viewer's fault that we have strayed away from good wrighting and story. Its the media. They should be censored so I'm not offended anymore.

Here is how tv economics works. Shows are based on rating. The more rating, the more money the show recieves to continue from their network. How do you get ratings? It used to be that the networks wrote good stories and were more interested in informing the nation then entertaining on the news programs.

What happened? The networks found out that if they can cater to the lowest common denominator, they can identify with more people, and by association tap into the primal urges of the higher denominators. This caused wrightint to start focusing on fart jokes, relationship squables, sexual inuendo, sex, and about pleaseing the self. The more they could relate to the primal urges of their viewers, the more money.

Then News stations learned that they would get more money if they brought up gosip and mudslinging comentaries.

Then they found out that if they showed breaking news about " WHAT MIGHT KILL YOU TODAY!?" or " WHAT SICK THING DID THAT PERSON DID TODAY!?" stories, theyd get more ratings.

Then reality TV came along and took everything above, but added network sponsored hedonism. Fun fun fun.

So basicliy its not about censoring this stuff. This is about not giving this stuff the attention it dosen't deserve. Take away teh money and it dries up.

We don't need another government program fidleing with our lives just because we are to lazy to turn the chanle

i know that, so therefore when they dont care to offer anything else.Even the unbelieving atheists that want some decent entertainment othere then prime time PORN. Then tvs will go off , no money for them(tv networks) when that happens.

i havent watched tv for more then 1 hr in over a yr. You may like that junk on tv and or call it entertainment, but the networks dont care about us, ever pettitioned to keep a tv show on the air.

Sometimes they dont listen. Unfortunaley some will still watch the filth, i wont and many others wont.

Should we allow the adveritsements like the one is Russia to be shown in broad daylight.

I actually don't watch tv. If there is a show that comes on that I want to see, or sounds interesting, I youtube it or find a torent. If I like it, I buy the Boxset or buy it off itunes if I have the money. I'm proud to say That I stray away from bad writting and hate reality TV with a Passion. Also, now that News station put all their broadcasts online, I don't have to turn my tv on for news anymore. :)

Turn off the TV and stop buying music, unless its from the artist themselves. Revolution throught their own game, Kill the money. :shades
