he is heartbroken. I have prayed on what to say. best to let mother handle it. unless he comes to me about that. im not going to be the best example on that.

Nathan is in my prayers. Puppy love can be so devastating.

Just let him know that his heart will mend. That he's learning how to discern personality traits that he likes (or doesn't), and that he'll be fascinated by quite a few personality types during the years before he meets that truly someone special. It's all a process of elimination, so that he'll know his mind and heart when the time arrives.

I was going to word that differently after praying to suppress my cynicism of the dating process. no need to lay that upon him.

Just accentuate the positive.........that dating can be great fun while also having some not so great times. Remind him he's dealing with other people, and that he'll not like 100% about some of those people.

she ended with him. I haven't been told the reason. a phone call. I hate that, at least do it in person.

True........... if a relationship is going to end, then it should be done in person. But not everyone is prepared to be that forthright.

At least a phone call is better than a note passed through the hands of several people before reaching its final destination.

it happens. still I would like to know why. something he said gives me a warning of im separating and I found someone else but I didn't see it until a few minutes after he said it. we had dinner at applebees and he mentioned her spending time 50% with family and him. that is odd and likely was a cover for her seeing another then breaking up with him.

Yeah, I think breakups are more painful for males than females. Just an observation, I could be wrong. When I broke up with my first GF, I vowed to always get a better GF for the next one, and stuck to it! If it's real painful for him, tell him the least he should do is to turn it into a learning experience (thereby making it a positive, albeit slightly)

Depending upon who is doing the breaking up, it can affect females just as bad - sometimes worse - as it does males.

It also depends upon how the break up is handled. If it's a polite break up, that helps. But if the person doing the breaking up starts in on reasons for the break up, and takes it negatively personal, the break up can be devastating.

And there's no two ways about it: A puppy love - first 'love' - is really the hardest.

I've also seen some seriously broken up males whose relationships went kaput.

I've also seen members of both sexes who walked away from relationships without even a backward glance or a spot of emotion.

Life can be rough at times.
