  • Genesis 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her Seed; It shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise His heel."

3:16 Unto the woman He said, "I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children (sons); and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee."

In the Hebrew text "children" is "sons." These are males...men children/man child that the woman will bring forth.

  • Revelation 12:4-5 And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born. And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to His throne.

Fascinating. From Genesis to Revelation...the story of the woman bringing forth the man child is told. From the woman comes the men children...they are those that Christ is in and they shall "bruise the head" of the serpent. The serpent will "bruise the heel" of Christ. He did when He nailed Christ to the cross but Satan will again bruise the feet of Christ. His feet are His witnesses.

  • Revelation 11:11 And after three days and an half the spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which saw them.

Greetings,

What does seed mean in the scripture ? Gen 3:

15And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

Seed is offspring. It is interesting to note that as you get into Gen. 4 & 5 you can begin to see this "seed of the serpent" and "seed of the woman" unfold in two different geneologies.

The "seed" in the Hebrew is called "zirmah", and in the Greek it is "sperma". We in the English call it "sperm", and in Strongs Hebrew Dictionary # 2233; "Posterity, carnally, child, fruitful". :chin

So okay~ but in the NT doesn't seed mean the Word of God? :chin

Well lets see

24Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field:

the answer :::

37He answered and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man;

38The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one;

Here we have Christ Himself declaring "seed" or "sperma" means children.....

todd says:

Seed is offspring

Thanks, So would you say that the serpent has a offspring ?

Todd aint saying it for it is written.....

14And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:

15And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

Cant have enmity between the the serpents seed if he doesnt have a seed.....

It is a very touchy subject. Therefore..."careful." :yes

To me, it is written and should be taught but it truly seems to rile lots of folks.

By the way....welcome to the forum. :wave

Hey thanks for the welcome.

Well, a lot of my views rend to rile people up :lol Nothing heretical, but my views on soteriology and eschatology tend to ruffle feathers.

Any way, thanks for the clarification.

Hi ~

I found it! Eureka!

"Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. Luke 8:11

Of course this would be an eight... (private thought)
Also, Jesus is the word of God...

He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. Revlation 19:13

And again... 1 Peter 1:23 says that "we have been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever.

Will the serpents seed be around at the end of the age ?

lol ,,,,LET ME EXPLAIN......The word "seed" can mean many different things,,,,a child,,,,knowledge,,,,something you put in the ground that grows,,,,,see the word "seed" can mean all of these things,,,,so as the reader you must input the right meaning.....

With that said lets look at the the text.......

15And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

Now if you say that "seed" means "word Of God.....then this is what we get...

And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between they "word of God" and her "Word of God"..... :nono

But what God told the serpent/satan was that He/God is going to put enmity/hatred in a sense) between the serpents "children" and the womans children.....

also the word used in Genesis 3:15 is hebrew the word is "zirmah", ,,,in the text you put forth from Luke 8:11 the word is "speiro" (not 100%) but anyhow we are dealing with 2 different languages,,,,so yes your right "seed does mean "word of God" but in Genesis 3 it means sperm/children.......

:waving savedbygrace~

Another parable He put forth to them, saying: "The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field; but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat and went his way. But when the grain had sprouted and produced a crop, then the tares also appeared. So the servants of the owner came and said to him, ‘Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then does it have tares?’ He said to them, ‘An enemy has done this.’ The servants said to him, ‘Do you want us then to go and gather them up?’ But he said, ‘No, lest while you gather up the tares you also uproot the wheat with them. Let both grow together until the harvest, and at the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, "First gather together the tares and bind them in bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into my barn."’" Matthew 13:24-30

The devil (every Christain' enemy) has his sowed seed in the world until the end of the age... :o These are the evil weeds sown among God's children the wheat. The enemy’s purpose in sowing tares was to destroy the wheat. But the wise farmer will not allow the enemy to succeed. Instead, He will sort it out at harvest time.

Jesus makes it clear what the different figures in the parable represent. The field represents the world, the seed represents the word, and the crop is either grain from the good seeds, or are tares - representing the sons of the wicked one.

As applied to the kingdom community (the Body of Christ in the world today) this parable teaches us that it is not our job to sort the tares from the wheat. That is only done at the time of harvest. Among God’s people, there may be some who are not genuine Christians, but it is God’s job to sort out false professors.
:yes

Jesus gives us another illustration of the corruption of the kingdom community in the world today...

Another parable He put forth to them, saying: "The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field, which indeed is the least of all the seeds; but when it is grown it is greater than the herbs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and nest in its branches."Matthew 24:31-32

Some people think of this as a beautiful picture of the church growing so large that it provides refuge for all the world... :nono But this mustard seed plant has grown into a monstrosity, and it harbors birds - who, the in the parables, are emissaries of Satan. :o (Matthew 13:4 and 13:19)

And Jesus teaches once more in these verses to illustrate the corruption in the kingdom community from His time until now~ The parable of the leaven in the meal.

Another parable He spoke to them: "The kingdom of heaven is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal till it was all leavened." Matthew 24:33

Some people also believe this parable is another beautiful picture of the kingdom of God working its way through the whole world... :shrug

But three measures of meal was the exact amount customarily used in a grain offering to God, and leaven (which always is a picture of sin in the Bible) has absolutely no place in a grain offering. :crazy

See Levitcus 2:11--> 'No grain offering which you bring to the LORD shall be made with leaven, for you shall burn no leaven nor any honey in any offering to the LORD made by fire. :thumb

The idea of hiding leaven in three measures of meal would have offended any observant Jew. This certainly is not a picture of the church gradually influencing the whole world for good. It is the opposite, the leaven always representated sin. The sin in the Body of Christ has certainly "leavened" the whole kingdom community in our day! :yes

May our heavenly Father grant us holy lives for Jesus name! sheshisown~

hmmm,,,,,why avoid the word "children" we both know what "children" means,,,,,and we both know what it takes to make children....

sorry but your wrong the word "seed" in Matthew 13 :24 is "sperma" in otherwards in the english "sperm".......sperm makes children....
''"
The word tares in the Greek is "zizanion" often called "zewan" its a plant that looks like wheat but it aint,,,,and very hard to tell apart,,,, :chin

So you see the subject Here is "children" and the discussion therefor would beg to ask,,,, how did satan/wicked one,,,get children???........,,,

and by using the implication of the word "sperma" and "zirmah" we are talking about literal children whether in the Greek or the Hebrew.....

:waving NIGHTMARE~

LET ME EXPLAIN......The word "seed" can mean many different things,,,,a child,,,,knowledge,,,,something you put in the ground that grows,,,,,see the word "seed" can mean all of these things,,,,so as the reader you must input the right meaning.....

I agree with you that we must discern properly what meaning is being used in each case. However, there are numerous times in which words and phrases are used as figures of speech, just as we have learned to use words in that manner, and do today, grammatically.

This is the list of possible meanings found in Strong's Lexicon results for:
seed : Greek= ÃÀέÃÂμα ; transliteration= spe'r-mä

1) from which a plant germinates

a) the seed i.e. the grain or kernel which contains within itself the germ of the future plants

1) of the grains or kernels sown

b) metaph. a seed i.e. a residue, or a few survivors reserved as the germ of the next generation (just as seed is kept from the harvest for the sowing)

2) the semen virile

a) the product of this semen, seed, children, offspring, progeny

b) family, tribe, posterity

c) whatever possesses vital force or life giving power

1) of divine energy of the Holy Spirit operating within the soul by which we are regenerated

So which meaning is understood by the "experts" =meaning biblical writers who have studied the words in detail? Let's see what the Vine's dictionary text says:

Seed:

akin to speiro, "to sow" (Eng., "sperm," "spermatic," etc.), has the following usages,
(a) agricultural and botanical, e.g., Mat 13:24, 27, 32 (for the AV of vv. 19-23, see SOW, as in the RV); 1Cr 15:38; 2Cr 9:10;

How about the Genesis 3:15 scripture?

There we have a Hebrew word= זרע
transliteration= zeh'·rah

Lexicon results:

1) seed, sowing, offspring

a) a sowing

b) seed

c) semen virile

d) offspring, descendants, posterity, children

e) of moral quality

1) a practitioner of righteousness (fig.)

f) sowing time (by meton)

So I am in accord with Nightmare regarding the definition for the Genesis verse. However, the Lord is using a different word which is agricultural in the NT scripture I detailed above.

Here is the first promise of God for the salvation that will come. And the hint is that the salvation will come through a virgin born child. :D For God is speaking of the woman's seed which she does not have. The woman has an egg that is fertilized by the male seed. But God~ speaking of the woman's seed is indicating a virgin birth. :o

Later God speaks of it more clearly in Isaiah:

Behold, I shall give you a sign, a virgin shall conceive, and bring forth a son, call his name Immanuel, which means, God with us. And he shall be great. Isaiah 7:14

See this also it speaks about His kingdom and His throne. :clap

So what we see is God's promise back at the beginning of the sorrows and the destruction from sin is that the day will come when <the woman's seed> will bruise the serpent's head. The head always being spiritually a figure of authority and power. :yes The seed of the woman will (and has) destroyed Satan's power---> the authority of Satan.

So Jesus Christ has destroyed the power of Satan over our lives and the authority of Satan over our lives. :thumb

Great study... sheshisown~
