Explain Th e Difference...

Someone explain the difference between; Pleasure, Happiness and Joy.

Or are they the same? I think they're different, personally. Pretty sure, lol.

Pleasure... hedonistic in nature. "Feels good"

Happiness is the state of giddiness.

Joy is different...a smile on your face is not required for it....it's over all and enduring over long periods of time. Having hope is a requirement to have joy.

I agree.

Pleasure = Immediate superficial enjoyment that comes from something/someone tickling our fancy

Happiness = lasts longer than a simple pleasure. Culmination of several pleasures both past and present. Still temporary in nature.

Joy = In my experience, brings little outward manifestation. Inwardly though, in my spirit, a welling up of brightness knowing the Kingdom is near and knowing our future with the King of Kings and His saints is a sureness that will bring permanence......no fleeting momentary tickling. Joy is hearing the manifestation of the Kingdom in other's lives. When I see my Lord and when I see His Kingdom and I see you guys there....then I will manifest that joy not only inwardly, but outwardly and the whole world will see it.

I haven't looked up these words, but I had been thinking about it and I thought this is crazy they can't mean the same thing. That would be stupid having 27 words that all mean the same thing. So I think it's prolly something like this...

Pleasure= Of the flesh? (through our 5 senses)
Happiness= of the Soul? (A mental or emotional)
Joy= Of the Spirit. (This is scriptural)

Since we are created spirit beings, that is us. This is how one is able to, joy in the Lord while undergoing tribulation (Job? Apostles?) So now I think we would do good to remember that when our flesh desires something, that is not us. We are are spirit and that is not us with the desire and can then tell him (the flesh) to shut up. From our spirit. Sifted through the soul so there'll be that argument, lol.

I think this is deep. Constantly being aware that we are three part beings helps us to keep a proper perspective on what's happening within us when we feel or perceive things happening within us.

I think another good one is the difference between cleverness, intelligence and wisdom. I think they fall along those lines as well. That's another thread though.

Is pleasure hedonistic in nature?

Psalms 147:11
11 The Lord takes pleasure in those who fear Him,
In those who hope in His mercy.

Hedonism, from my understanding is purely physical...it's the mis-focus of individuals who prioritize this that are having issues.

But it's possible that the word doesn't mean what I think it means.

I agree that in today society that the word pleasure relates to a hedonistic sense.

But given the verse I quoted it seems like God takes pleasure in us.

Basically is pleased with us.

The reason I addressed your post was because you addressed pleasure as Hedonism. That I get.

The root of the word pleasure in the Psalm is basically to be pleased with, to accept.

The world has got it wrong. We know the truth.
We need to educate based on the word of God as to what real pleasure is.

Please do not think I was going at you.
That was not my intent.
I just wanted to point out that God has pleasure in his kids.

That it feels good to God when his kids do well...hey, I can get behind that concept.
