Does anyone or anybody need Facebook ?
Is it essential to have a Facebook profile (etc) ?

I have been thinking for quite a while lately to come off Facebook permanently forever, i've started to think sensibly "Do i really need one" "Technically i don't need one" (etc). I technically only use facebook to keep up-to-date with singers/bands i listen to and like and post pictures of concerts/gigs i have been to.
I don't really talk to anybody on facebook because if i talk to anybody it's my friends or family and they have my mobile number or e-mail address.

Is there anyone or anybody who hasn't got a Facebook?
Also are they bothered they ain't got a Facebook?

So really do i need Facebook ? :dunno

I don't like facebook... I do have an account because family, grandkids, have photos etc... It creeps me out ...

I dont use it. I actually saw a show a few weeks ago that said the cia is basically running facebook.

I find it useful to speak to friends, since even the ones that live close by I don't see but once a week, and relatives.

Need it? Nope. Also, my dad used to warn us about security issues with the site, that the owners don't mind giving your information to third parties. Never looked into it, but he said it was on the news.
I stayed anyway, but I understand why some people wouldn't want to get involved.

I created an account last year I think. I literally lasted three days, then I terminated it.
It's just way to petty for me, with so much meaningless information being stored.
I had a myspace account for like 2-3 years and then deleted it.
Social networking is the devil yo, I don't need that noise.
Too much government for me.

FaceBook is the only way I can maintain contact with some of the people I know. But it's proving very useful in letting people know about my website and share articles about God, Christianity etc I've had some good discussions with atheists and Christians on there.

I guess no one really "needs" Facebook. Just like we don't need most of the things we have and don't need to do most of the things we do for pleasure. I've been on Facebook for a few years now and enjoy it a lot because I've reconnected with so many old friends that I had truly believed I would never see or hear from again after moving out of state about 13 years ago. Thanks to Facebook, I've even met up in person with a few of them too, and a bunch of my high school friends even have a yearly reunion now. None of this was happening before Facebook got popular.

So for me, it's been a good thing. Much like anything else, we probably don't need it, but if we enjoy it and it doesn't hurt our relationship with God, why not use it? If you don't like it, you can certainly go on living without it. I think a few people since Adam have survived without being on Facebook! :D

I think it's been about 9 months since I logged on my Facebook account, and I've probably logged on 3 times in the past 3 years. I check our kid's and wish there never was such a thing every time I do. It amazes me what kids will say, and I'm stunned that their parents either don't care or are completely oblivious to what they are saying.

There's nothing inherently bad about Facebook, but it seems a lot of people use it for bad. I think people get themselves into bad spots. Football coach Woody Hayes said there are three things that can happen when you pass the ball, and two of them are bad. It seems to me the same premise applies in posting on Facebook. :lol

I do keep a FB account, mostly because I have friends and family across this nation and in a few other nations. Its our way of going "yep, made it through that blizzard" type stuff. There's a lot of noise on these sites though. And I don't think people realize that once they post something -- for example, underage drinking photographs -- they're there forever. Meaning your future spouse could see them, or future employer, or worse yet, future in-laws ...

You shouldn't misbehave ... but if you're going to, you shouldn't tell the world you misbehaved ...

I totally agree with you :) couldn't said it better myself

I guarantee you these 'friends across the nation' are not your friends..if you know what I mean.

Actually for the most part they are. I've lived in many areas of this country and made friends there, and we keep up this way. My best friend lives in Salem MA -- I'm in Atlanta GA now. Yeah, there are folks who aren't really friends but by and large I only friend people I know.

oh, i thought you meant stranger friends for popularity. oops. :cool

Yeah. these kids aren't saying anything much that they didn't always say behind their parents backs before the days of the internet, but I'm also amazed that now that the parents can see it, so many of them just don't seem to care. Are they just sticking their heads in the sand like the ostrich because they can't figure out what to do about it?

The more I think about whats being said here, it reminds me that just about anything in this world can be used for good and bad, usually at the same time. For the most part it's not what we have or what we participate in that's good or bad, but HOW we do it and for WHAT reasons. The answer isn't to eliminate or completely avoid many things just because others use them for bad, but rather to be an example to the world of how to use them for good, Godly purposes. Just my thoughts on it anyway.

It's true that being listed as friends on facebook or on forums does not make you actual friends, but I've actually had a few cyber friends who I consider to be true friends. These people have offered help and support during some of the hardest times of my life, and I'd do the same for them. My close friends, online and not, mean the world to me.

P.S. Most of my facebook friends are people I actually know.

I just re-joined facebook because my church cell group made me. Seriously. :lol
Like 4 years ago when most Germans were using a different platform for social networking facebook was fun. No real life contacts, only online friends from 3 continents. That stupid time line thing didn't exist yet. I was rather addicted to that kind of online friendships and enjoyed doing silly stuff like sharing lolcats pics or playing farmville with them. I later quit that account though, because real life people started to find me and because I got addicted to World of Warcraft instead.

No, you don't need facebook. Data aren't safe there and it can't do anything other things couldn't do.
It got boring, I didn't post a single status since I signed up again a few weeks ago. And I know all of my fb friends in real life, how boring is that?! :D

1.) Is World of Warcraft good? because my friend recommended it to me but i still haven't invested into the game yet
2.) How isn't your data safe?
