Have you ever the term "Make the best of a bad situation." This is faith in a nutshell, faith is a natural ability we all have that helps us cope in a contradictive crisis.
Example.
Your partner and you have a fight one night over something that's been an issue for many months. After yelling at each other for a long time your partner shouts at you that they are leaving and never coming back. They pick up there car keys and walk out, the door slams behind them and soon they drive away. Soon you begin to calm down then from there you can only think two things (Will my partner return or will they not return?) You now face a contradictive crisis.
The more you try to resolve the contradiction mentally the more contradictions you will create (Will my partner be safe or not? will my partner tell someone else about our fight or not? will my partner go find someone else or not?) The reason more contradictions are created is that a contradictive crisis is a subjective non absolute and the rational mind can't deal with non absolutes. The rational mind can only deal with objective absolutes (One idea at a time) and when it tries to deal with a contradictive non absolute it will only create more contradictions to evade the core contradiction.
Now while you keep adding more and more subjective ideas your mind will start to suffer pain and soon it becomes unable to cope with all the mental stress. The only way out of this mental dilemma is to use a faculty that can live in a subjective contradiction. "Faith" faith is to make the best of a bad situation, that is to say to (Hope that your partner will return home soon, but be prepared that if they don't return by morning you'll deal with it then.) Since faith can live in a contradiction the rational mind can turn off for a while and feel more relaxed and sedated.
"Faith' is actually hoping on two opposites at the same time without having to rationally think between two opposites all the time, otherwise if your partner does return home that night you might blame them for your mental anguish when you could have used your faith instead.
