Reading the word of God is one way to know God better. I follow this schedule every day. It is in chronological order, more or less. I do the reading routinely non-stop just for the purpose of familiarity with the Bible. At the end of the daily reading, I would think of just one question and raise it here in this subreddit.

Which version to read?

Pick a version that you like from Biblehub. ESV is a good one to start. After you have finished that version from Genesis to Revelation, then pick another version.

What happens if I miss a day?

If you miss a day's reading, you can either make it up the next day or just skip it. The goal is to familiarize yourself with the entire Bible over the years. No need to sweat over some particular missing days. This is not a daily Bible study routine, but a daily Bible reading routine.

I use the KJV as I grew up with it and the first Bible I was given when I was a child. Everyone has their favorite, but the important part is to pray first and ask the Holy Spirit to give you wisdom and understanding of what you are reading.

The way I study the Bible is to take a verse at a time in the beginning of a chapter. Once I understand that verse then I move on with the next until I get to the end of the Chapter. That way I get the full context of what the Holy Spirit wants me to know and understand. Book by book, chapter by chapter, verse by verse. I use to just read a chapter at a time and only get the jest of the Chapter, but now I get the full context. Sometimes I might get stuck on one verse or maybe just one word within that verse, but as I move onward in reading eventually that verse or word will be answered by the whole.

There are many ways to read the bible, I would recommend three ways.
1. Daily readings with a set of Bible reading notes. This is for one's own personal worship.
2. Read it regular,y in large chunks, read through the bible in a year is one way. It gives one an over view of what is in the bible.
3. To read passages carefully and thoughtfully, as,ING yourself what struck you in that passage and why. A diary is useful to help with these questions and answers.

One doesn't have to be doing all three methods.
How ever one reads having a commentary helps with any questions.
With every method praying about what one has read and about how it causes one to think is a vital part of every Bible reading system.
