You know the saying. You will never find an athiest in a foxhole.
oh, I have seen them. I have known a man upon being shot and living after being nearly captured deny that he wanted jesus. he had to play dead and listen to the Taliban unload 30 rounds into his buddies head and walk back down to get aid.

You are so right. That church is a cult.
Don't really know much about the church, but they sure seem to have a bunch of mean spirited people representing them.

What I have turned up is that, for the better part, they are a family unit. I mean like daddy founded and son picked it up from him and all or most of the officers are members of the family through birth or marriage. and I know from their publicity that they have already condemned me and all my men into eternal Hell for fighting to defend this nation and our national interests. They claim Baptist affiliation but that is not true. All Baptists, Pentecostals, Catholics and other Christian Denominations recognize that Jesus saves, even, hard core scoundrels, such as I was both during and after Vietnam.

Or maybe they instil fear in people to get them to know God

Or maybe they instil fear in people to get them to know God
Then they would be trying to get people to know a God that is not the one that raised Jesus from the dead. Not a loving, rescuing Father, but some kind of vindictive monster. Kind of goes against the Bible saying "God is love".

Did we come to love our own earthly fathers because we were afraid of them? It sure wasn't that way in my family. And Jesus constantly explained our relationship with God by describing earthly parents and the way they treat their children.

Jud 1:21 Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
Jud 1:22 And of some have compassion, making a difference:
Jud 1:23 And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.

This, from the God's Word translation, is the way I've always understood the meaning of this:
Jude 1: 23
Show mercy to others, even though you are afraid that you might be stained by their sinful lives

hell fire pentecostal backgrounds are hard to lose.. :missyou

Hey, it's not just Pentecostals. I was raised Baptist, and it was all through their teaching... but not too blatant .
In my late 20's, I joined the CoC. Not so much Hell Fire & Brimstone, but such a staggering load of legalism, that it's a wonder we could walk erect.
It took years to finally locate my present church home,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, and even there, we tend to settle into assumptions and misperceptions that border on us almost creating some dogmas that HAVE to be adhered to, or you just don't seem to feel you fit, somehow

LOL! Yep, but remember, the Pentecostal Denomination wasrn out of the Baptist Church. I have met a few that will tell you that when they left they took the Holy Spirit with them. Toss the cult assemblies out of both and the only difference between them is the raising of hands to God.

My Aunt Lucile was a member of one of the cultist churches and dragged me there more than once a a child. And my pastor was told by his mom and dad that he could make our Baptist Church into a Charismatic assembly if he was not careful. I and several others weep when we pray and sing certain numbers and we raise our hands to the Father in Worship Service, just like Fundamental Pentecostals of the Charistic vent.

Well, My denomination came out of the Calvary Chapels. Although we left due to differing views about demonstrative experiences of the Holy Spirit during the Worship Service, (Ain't I just So, PC?), both denominations have strong outreaches to the homeless, and "street people", in general. I guess that is why I see Jude 1:23 as the "fear" part being an awareness of our own personal position and feelings... not about delivering a message of "turn or burn" to them.

Many people I have known are fine with sitting in a pew, "praying" for people who are not so pretty, and maybe even writing a check to help feed them. But to actually let them come into their building... all un-washed, smelly, and sometimes, barefoot, seems to really and truly scare them. And to actually physically go down to skid row, themselves, and hold their hands, or hug them, is almost unthinkable to some of them.

And, frankly, this is much of what I believe Jesus called us to do.

You'll never hear me disagree with you about that because He did not die on the cross Just for me. A couple came to our Service one Sunday and they joined the Church. Both of them and their son are slow and my wife, daughter and I were busy for the next month but the first free Sunday we had, we had them over for dinner. As we were eating Lunch and talking Tony told me that they had been members of several Churches but that we were the first people to ever invite them into ther houses.

Right now Anissa is in the Hospital with Lupus, trying to die. My daughter drove her to the Emergency Room and has spent the past week, sitting with her. There are too many in the Church that are not the Church and that is sad. God bless, Willie.

p.s. My first name is the German form of yours, Willis.
