Response from my inquiry regarding my families not being a member of a Christian church and the OPCs call to the Lord's Supper and a requirement that one be a member of a Christian church.
The response was: Hi Fred,
Thanks so much for writing me about this. Let me say at the outset, we do want you and your family to partake of the Lord's Supper.
While that word of warning is common, the aim is that anyone who is not a Christian and who has not professed faith in Christ should not take the Lord's Supper because it is for those who know the Lord. Usually a profession of faith is connected to being a member of a church since that is where a profession of faith is typically made, thus the comment on being a member of a church. We have not had the opportunity to talk about your faith in Christ but you have attended worship a lot and I get the sense that you are believers in Christ. And so we most definitely want you and your family to partake of the Lord's Supper. It is for those who have repented and trusted in Christ, not just members of TPC, and therefore as a believers it belongs to you as well and we would want you to commune with us as we commune with the Lord.
I am sorry for any confusion on the matter. I hope this has helped. If there is still concern, please let me know. I would be happy to meet with you personally to discuss this.
