The parable of the fig tree is key to understanding the sequence of events to come.

Mathew 24v32 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh:
33 So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.
34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.

Now a little insight into fig trees
From Common fig - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia "Two crops of figs are potentially produced each year.[6] The first or breva crop develops in the spring on last year's shoot growth. In contrast, the main fig crop develops on the current year's shoot growth and ripens in the late summer or fall. The main crop is generally superior in both quantity and quality than the breva crop."

So we see that fig trees have two harvests, the first fruits in the spring and then the main harvest in late summer.

1 cor 15v20 But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the FIRSTFRUITS of them that slept.
21 For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.
22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.
23 But every man in his own order: Christ the FIRSTFRUITS; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming.

So Jesus with those he resurected with him were the firstfruits or spring harvest.

Mathew 27v52 And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,
53 And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.

And the main Harvest of late summer.

Rev7v4 And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel.
5 Of the tribe of Juda were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Reuben were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Gad were sealed twelve thousand.
6 Of the tribe of Aser were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Nephthalim were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Manasses were sealed twelve thousand.
7 Of the tribe of Simeon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Levi were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Issachar were sealed twelve thousand.
8 Of the tribe of Zabulon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Joseph were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Benjamin were sealed twelve thousand.
9 After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;

Why do people continue to take this parable out of context? :screwloose

Both Mathew and Mark stipulate the fig tree alone, luke does indeed add on the ( all the trees ) phrase after stipulating the fig tree. So i have not removed the phrase from its context, i have highlighted the context of the fig tree to bring understanding of the parable to a time and generation that does not relate to fig trees.

Nothing special about the fig tree, folks, except that it would point to the coming destruction of Jerusalem, and His return in judgment on it, Jesus was warning His disciples about in the Olivet Discourse:

{20} "But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then recognize that her desolation is near. {21} "Then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains, and those who are in the midst of the city must leave, and those who are in the country must not enter the city; {22} because these are days of vengeance, so that all things which are written will be fulfilled. {23} "Woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days; for there will be great distress upon the land and wrath to this people; {24} and they will fall by the edge of the sword, and will be led captive into all the nations; and Jerusalem will be trampled under foot by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled. Luke 21:20-24 (NASB)

{31} "So you also, when you see these things happening, recognize that the kingdom of God is near. Luke 21:31 (NASB)

{36} "But keep on the alert at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are about to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man." Luke 21:36 (NASB)

So i have not removed the phrase from its context,

Of course you did, and you admitted so with your very next line (though you don't recognize your error):
i have highlighted the context of the fig tree to bring understanding of the parable to a time and generation that does not relate to fig trees.

What part of this context needs to be understood by us???

{36} "But keep on the alert at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are about to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man." Luke 21:36 (NASB)

The context of the parable of the fig tree was meant for His disciples 2,000 years ago! Not us!!!

BTW, you do know Luke wasn't an apostle, right? You do know he wasn't even a Jew, right? You do know his gospel was the last of the three synoptic gospels to be written, right? You do know his gospel is the longest book in the NT, right?

Now, do you know why all these things are important??? :chin

Well Jesus was asked two questions.
Mathew 241 And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple.
2 And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.
3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? 1 and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? 2

After fortelling them of the destruction of the temple they asked when is the destruction and what shall be the sign of his comming. But you skipped a lot of scripture there storm
Luke 2120-24 is indeed foretelling the destruction of Jerusalam, And telling us that these events will be seperated by the times of the Gentiles.
But verse 31 is given in context of the parable of the fig tree, from those verses that you skipped over. the destruction and the diaspora of the jews is clearly before the return of the lord and after the times of the Gentils.

luke 21v24 And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled. 25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;
26 Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.
27 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.
28 And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.
29 And he spake to them a parable; Behold the fig tree, and all the trees;
30 When they now shoot forth, ye see and know of your own selves that summer is now nigh at hand.
31 So likewise ye, when ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand.

The context is clear.

What part of "all these things that are about to take place" aren't you getting?

Shall we go down the list of all these things in the context of Luke???

  1. wars and disturbances Luke 21:9 (NASB)
  2. Nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom Luke 21:10 (NASB)
  3. earthquakes, plagues and famines; terrors and great signs from heaven. Luke 21:11 (NASB)
  4. persecution of believers Luke 21:12 (NASB)
  5. Jerusalem surrounded by armies Luke 21:20 (NASB)
  6. distress upon the land (Judea and Jerusalem) and wrath to this people (the Jews); Luke 21:23 (NASB)
  7. signs in sun and moon and stars, dismay among nations Luke 21:25 (NASB)
  8. THE SON OF MAN COMING IN A CLOUD Luke 21:27 (NASB)
{31} "So you also, when you see [all] these things happening, recognize that the kingdom of God is near. {32} "Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all [these] things take place. Luke 21:31-32 (NASB)

(Matthew writes: {34} "Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place. Matthew 24:34 (NASB).)

{36} "But keep on the alert at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are about to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man." Luke 21:36 (NASB)

There's no "gap" in the context of the Olivet Discourse in either Matthew or Luke.

"All these things" clearly refers to everything recorded in the discourse.

Look... you know as well as i do that your entire argument rests on the your belief that Jesus said his return would be during the then current generation. You do not have one shred of evidence to support his actual return.

Jesus clearly changes the discussion to a parable.

Mathew24v32 Now learn a parable of the fig tree;

No kidding.. and it would be funny if it wasn't so sad that so many are led to believe the nonsense of preterism.

Jesus said that Jerusalem would be trampled under foot by the gentiles UNTIL the times of the gentiles are fulfilled. Jerusalem was indeed trampled under the feet of gentiles in 70ad and remained under the foot of gentiles UNTIL 1967 at which time Jerusalem was no longer trampled under the feet of gentiles but came under the control of the Jewish people again. The time of the gentiles was fulfilled, how do you explain this?

Sam can you produce from the scriptures the definition of 'the time of the gentiles' that fits your model?:biglol
Ya know a definition that doesnt require you to add to scripture.

Technicly half of Jerusalam including the temple mount, is still controlled by the Gentils.

Well yeah it really important that Jerusalem be controlled by jewish antichrists rather than arab antichrists.:screwloose

I disagree there,Jerusalem is totally under Israelis control, the Jews ALLOW the Muslims to be in control UNDER THEIR CONTROL. All of Jerusalem is under Jewish control.

Pretty clear, Jesus said that Jerusalem would be trampled under foot of the gentiles until the times of the gentiles be fulfilled...so the obvious thought is that the times of the gentiles is the times when they have control over Jerusalem.

More dust biting I see. You have nothing at all from scripture ,despite your self professed great knowledge of the Word.

You've put yourself in the unenviable position of calling Christ a liar because the only thing "incomplete" in that list I gave you is your understanding of it!

I find it amazing that you would build a whole doctrine out of a single, allegorical phrase, the "fig tree" and ignore Christ's plain words - "ALL THESE THINGS" - to which it points! :nono2

I really thought you would be smarter than to reduce yourself to calling Christ a liar. Guess I was wrong.

you really are a blank slate, not really an answer for anything but always a smart but reply.
