[_ Old Earth _] First Human Embryos Edited in U.S.

Regardless of my opinion of my own OP, which I believe I did state in this thread, this thread is not about aliens, demons, or implanted computer chips. Just asking people to stay on topic.

Years ago there was a Cornell study published. It reported that gene switches, genetics having the capacity to turn on and off, were due to DNA sequences mutating. What science calls evolution I call God's plan unfolding as planned.

I wonder how this bit of tinkering will effect that?

Also, this latest study got me to thinking about a line in an old Al Pacino movie, "The Devil's Advocate". Big Pacino fan.
I'll clean it up a bit because the full line was rather crude. However, it did describe the human appetite for gorging the ego with our own capacity to excess. And I think it particularly relevant to this latest adventure in tinkering with embryo's in this manner.
" ....You sharpen the human appetite to the point where it can split atoms with its desire, you build egos the size of cathedrals, fiber-optically connect the world to every eager impulse, grease even the dullest dreams with these dollar-green, gold plated fantasies until every human becomes an aspiring emperor, becomes his own god, and where can you go from there?...."

Before I go and do a bunch of digging, I need to know exactly what will be acceptable as a "checkable" Source.

Something in the scientific literature, where the data is available.

What is it that you will use to determine a source that is "checkable" to your standard of approval?

A peer-reviewed journal with data would be good. Stories are easy; data is not.

It's mostly histones and other factors that switch genes on and off. However, those are mediated by DNA as you suggest.

Yep. Evolution is what happens. But God intended it so. "Planning" is probably not a good word to use, since that means "figuring out how to do it." God knows everything, so He merely willed it so, without planning at all.

I notice that even Herod, who was opposed to God's will, served God's purposes in the end. So maybe gene tinkering will be like that.

This was true of the Romans, and the Chinese, and the Persians and the Mayas... (long list of clever cultures who thought themselves close to challenging God). We are no closer to doing that than the Romans who figured out how to get water in places far from where God left it.

Yes.

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

I think everything serves God's purpose. Our task is to reason it out when it happens to us.

True. Every generations advances lead that generation to imagine themselves the source for how they came to be there.

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Scripture also speaks of God's wrath. But God, being perfect, does not lose His temper. We only use such words as imperfect ways of approaching His action in this world.

What ever God does is Godly ...

Deu_1:37 Also the LORD was angry with me for your sakes, saying, Thou also shalt not go in thither.
1Ki_11:9 And the LORD was angry with Solomon, because his heart was turned from the LORD God of Israel, which had appeared unto him twice,
Num_11:33 And while the flesh was yet between their teeth, ere it was chewed, the wrath of the LORD was kindled against the people, and the LORD smote the people with a very great plague.

2Ki_17:18 Therefore the LORD was very angry with Israel, and removed them out of his sight: there was none left but the tribe of Judah only.
Psa_7:11 God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day.

Deu_29:28 And the LORD rooted them out of their land in anger, and in wrath, and in great indignation, and cast them into another land, as it is this day.

Exo_34:14 For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God:

Exo_4:14 And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Moses, and he said, Is not Aaron the Levite thy brother? I know that he can speak well. And also, behold, he cometh forth to meet thee: and when he seeth thee, he will be glad in his heart.

Num_32:13 And the LORD'S anger was kindled against Israel, and he made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation, that had done evil in the sight of the LORD, was consumed.

Show us that. Checkable source.
I have been overwhelmed at work as of late and have not had the time that I would have liked to devote to your request.

I did stumble on to this very interesting presentation... it is only about 10 minutes long.

Amen. However, He is eternal and perfect. So He doesn't change his mind, or lose his temper, or fail to understand at all.

We may anthropomorphize Him because we can't understand Him in some ways. But God does not fail in any way.
