Four Things God Wants You to Know

Danger Another Gospel

David Rowely

The Apostle Paul warned in the strongest possible terms about the attitude of God toward those who would pervert the gospel of Jesus Christ. We can understand this, as it cost God his only son, and Jesus a horrible death by crucifixion.

He stated:

"But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed." Galatians 1:8, 9

So, what is the Gospel? It will be the purpose of this page to state clearly from the Scripture what the gospel is and what it is not. Much confusion about this matter exists. There are several "gospels" in the Scripture. In the verses quoted above, Paul says :

"But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. Yet in Rev 14:6,7 John says, "And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people (7) Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.

Anyone reading the context of that passage would quickly understand that the angel in Rev. 14 is not accursed, yet he has another gospel. How can this be? Are the scriptures contradictory, or is there something we are not seeing? The answer can be found in Paul's admonition to young Timothy on the proper and only method of understanding the word of God. He said :

"Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth" (2 Timothy 2:15).

The words "rightly dividing" are critical to our subject. There are critical and proper divisions in the Scripture that we must observe in order to keep our understanding, not only of the gospel, but of the Bible itself, in proper perspective. The word "dispensationalist" is a dirty word in many circles, but in reality, any real Christian is a dispensationalist. The word simply means one who recognizes that God has worked differently in the past, and will do so in the future.

There is a marked difference in how God worked in the Old Testament as compared to the New. Even within the New Testament, there was a progression of truth that culminated in the teaching of Paul, the Apostle to the Gentiles. This concept can be seen clearly in Acts 18:24 - 26:

"And a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man, and mighty in the scriptures, came to Ephesus. (25) This man was instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in the spirit, he spake and taught diligently the things of the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John. (26) And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly.

Apollos loved the Lord, but was short in his knowledge of the progression of truth. John the Baptist preached the gospel of the Kingdom of Heaven:

Mat 3:1 "In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, (2) And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."

Jesus himself preached the same:

Mat 4:23 And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.

One can easily discern that the gospel of the Kingdom, which Christ preached long before his death and resurrection, is not the same as that which Paul calls "my gospel".

Romans 2:16 In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.

Romans 16:25 Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began,

2 Timothy 2:8 Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel:

What is Paul's gospel? Is it the same as the gospel of the Kingdom? If not, what is the difference? Let's investigate:

For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: 1Cor 15:3,4

The above has been called the "gospel in a nutshell". It is the clearest statement on the gospel in the New Testament. It is not what we do for God, but rather what He, through Christ, has done for us. Our responsibility lies only in receiving it with a repentant heart.

John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

We receive him by faith:

Eph 2:8,9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.

In short, a man or woman is saved in this age by simple faith in the substitutionary (in our place) sacrifice of Jesus Christ. We, like the Philippian jailor, have only to:

"Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved . . .". Acts 16:31

That belief takes place when a man or woman repents, in other words, changes his or her mind about themselves and about God. I am wrong and God is right. I am a sinner and He is righteous. I am without real hope; He is everything I need. Understanding this and admitting my hopelessness, I receive Jesus Christ simply by believing on Him and in what He did - alone. No baptism, no sacraments, no good works, I just simply receive the free gift:

Romans 5:15 But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.

Romans 5:16 And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification.

Romans 5:18 Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SALVATION IN OUR AGE IS A FREE GIFT!! HALLELUJAH!

Some will undoubtedly disagree and say that the angel in Revelation is preaching the same gospel Paul preached, and that all are saved the same way throughout the Bible. To this we would partially agree. All are saved by the blood of Christ, however all are not saved the same way. Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord, yet he was required to build something for his salvation. You are required to build nothing. However, the difficulty does not cease there. In Matthew (remember the Kingdom gospel) chapter 24 we find these words:

Matthew 24:13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. (14) And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

You are not commanded to endure to the end of anything!! The verses above have no bearing on you whatsoever as far as your salvation is concerned. Your salvation is a free gift. Enduring to the end is not! The context is the Jewish Kingdom, and since Israel rejected both King and Kingdom, they will be required to endure to the end of a time called "Jacob's trouble":

Alas! for that day is great, so that none is like it: it is even the time of Jacob's trouble; but he shall be saved out of it. (Jer 30:7)

That time is commonly called the "Tribulation", and will last for three and one-half years. The person who endures without compromise, in other words, without taking the mark of the Beast or worshipping his image (Rev 13;15\16), either to the end of the tribulation or the end of his life, will be saved in that time. That is what Jesus taught when he said:

Matthew 10:39 He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.

Matthew 16:25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. Matthew 16:25

The gospel is not the same in every age. In the Old Testament no one was sealed with the Holy Spirit as a Church Age saint is. Noah had to build an ark or he would have drowned and gone to hell. Tribulation saints must endure to the end. YOU must simply put all your trust in the shed blood of Jesus Christ and cease and desist from trying to earn His favor. He offers you a free gift!!

Now to the crux of the whole matter. If the gospel is a free gift for you, can baptism (infant or otherwise) save you? Can the mass contribute? Can good works or church membership? What could you do to add something to what he called finished? Answer - NOTHING!

So what then is this dangerous "other gospel"?

1. It is any other scriptural gospel taken out of its scriptural setting.
a. Gospel of the kingdom - Matthew 24
b. Everlasting gospel - Revelation 14
c. Something that doesn't claim to be a gospel but is taunted as one:

Acts 2:37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?

Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Please notice in the above two verses no one asked, "What shall we do TO BE SAVED?" They had crucified their Messiah - King, and asked "What shall we do. They were answered "Repent and be baptized". That was an opportunity to repent for crucifying their messiah. Baptism was a requirement because it was the Kingdom gospel. (see Matthew 3: 1-6 g'wan, look it up!) If baptism is a requirement for salvation in this age of grace, Paul surely said a foolish thing in 1 Cor 1:14. There he say's "I thank God that I baptized none of you. . .",

d. Some other plan outside the Scriptures which purport to find a path to heaven.

What have we learned? There are "other" gospels in the Scripture. You attempt to follow them and you will wind up in hell. You cannot endure to the end because you will not be here if you are saved. If you are not saved - have not trusted Jesus Christ and his completed sacrifice on Calvary - alone, you might prepare yourself to endure, because if you are here during that horrible time, you will need to give up your life to save it. If you take the mark, you go to hell.

If you are alive now and have not put your trust in the shed blood of Jesus Christ, discounting all else, including your religion, baptism, good works, sacraments, candles, hail Mary's, our Fathers, Masses, prayers to the Holy Ghost, or any other thing you think you can do to commend yourself to God, it is imperative that you, right now, renounce all allegiance to whatever you are trusting, and put ALL your trust in Jesus alone. You can get "baptized" with the "Holy Ghost", speak in tongues, witness lying wonders (2 Thess 2:9) with Benny and company, but if you are not trusting ONLY in the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ, you are trusting in:

"ANOTHER GOSPEL".

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16

"Faultless before the presence of His glory."
--Jude 24

"Revolve in your mind that wondrous word, faultless!" We are far off from it now; but as our Lord never stops short of perfection in His work of love, we shall reach it one day. The Saviour who will keep His people to the Lend, will also present them at last to Himself, as "a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing, but holy and without blemish."

All the jewels in the Saviour's crown are of the first water and without a single flaw. All the maids of honour who attend the Lamb's wife are pure virgins without spot or stain. But how will Jesus make us faultless? He will wash us from our sins in His own blood until we are white and fair as God's purest angel; and we shall be clothed in His righteousness, that righteousness which makes the saint who wears it positively faultless; yea, perfect in the sight of God.

We shall be unblameable and unreproveable even in His eyes. His law will not only have no charge against us, but it will be magnified in us.

Moreover, the work of the Holy Spirit within us will be altogether complete. He will make us so perfectly holy, that we shall have no lingering tendency to sin. Judgment, memory, will--every power and passion shall be emancipated from the thraldom of evil.

We shall be holy even as God is holy, and in His presence we shall dwell for ever. Saints will not be out of place in heaven, their beauty will be as great as that of the place prepared for them.

Oh the rapture of that hour when the everlasting doors shall be lifted up, and we, being made meet for the inheritance, shall dwell with the saints in light. Sin gone, Satan shut out, temptation past for ever, and ourselves "faultless" before God, this will be heaven indeed!

Let us be joyful now as we rehearse the song of eternal praise so soon to roll forth in full chorus from all the blood-washed host; let us copy David's exultings before the ark as a prelude to our ecstasies before the throne."

Charles Spurgeon

Matthew 11:27 All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.

Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Matthew 11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

Matthew 11:30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

One with Christ Jesus

Because I live, ye shall live also. (John 14:19)

Jesus has made the life of believers in Him as certain as His own. As sure as the Head lives the members live also. If Jesus has not risen from the dead, then are we dead in our sins; but since He has risen, all believers are risen in Him. His death has put away our transgressions and loosed the bonds which held us under the death sentence. His resurrection proves our justification: we are absolved, and mercy saith, "The Lord hath put away thy sin, thou shalt not die."

Jesus has made the life of His people as eternal as His own. How can they die as long as He lives, seeing they are one with Him? Because He dieth no more, and death hath no more dominion over Him, so they shall no more return to the graves of their old sins but shall live unto the Lord in newness of life. O believer, when, under great temptation, thou fearest that thou shalt one day fall by the hand of the enemy, let this reassure thee. Thou shalt never lose thy spiritual life, for it is hid with Christ in God. Thou dost not doubt the immortality of thy Lord; therefore, do not think that He will let thee die, since thou art one with Him. The argument for thy life is His life, and of that thou canst have no fear; wherefore rest in thy living Lord.

Charles Hadden Spurgeon

He shall save his people from their sins. (Matthew 1:21)

Lord, save me from my sins. By the name of Jesus I am encouraged thus to pray. Save me from my past sins, that the habit of them may not hold me captive. Save me from my constitutional sins, that I may not be the slave of my own weaknesses. Save me from the sins which are continually under my eye that I may not lose my horror of them. Save me from secret sins; sins unperceived by me from my want of light. Save me from sudden and surprising sins: let me not be carried off my feet by a rush of temptation. Save me, Lord, from every sin. Let not any iniquity have dominion over me.

Thou alone canst do this. I cannot snap my own chains or slay my own enemies. Thou knowest temptation, for Thou wast tempted. Thou knowest sin, for Thou didst bear the weight of it. Thou knowest how to succor me in my hour of conflict; Thou canst save me from sinning and save me when I have sinned. It is promised in Thy very name that Thou wilt do this, and I pray Thee let me this day verify the prophecy. Let me not give way to temper, or pride, or despondency, or any form of evil; but do Thou save me unto holiness of life, that the name of Jesus may be glorified in me abundantly.

Charles Spurgeon

Ephesians 1:13-14 "In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory."

A person needs to believe in the finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ to be saved.

Acts 16:29 Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas,

Acts 16:30 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?

Acts 16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

Acts 16:32 And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house.

Acts 16:33 And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway.

Acts 16:34 And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house.

Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it. (1 Thessalonians 5:24)

What will He do? He will sanctify us wholly. See the previous verse. He will carry on the work of purification till we are perfect in every part. He will preserve our "whole spirit, and soul, and body, blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ." He will not allow us to fall from grace, nor come under the dominion of sin. What great favors are these! Well may we adore the giver of such unspeakable gifts.

Who will do this? The Lord who has called us out of darkness into His marvelous light, out of death in sin into eternal life in Christ Jesus. Only He can do this: such perfection and preservation can only come from the God of all grace.

Why will He do it? Because He is "faithful"--faithful to His own promise which is pledged to save the believer; faithful to His Son, whose reward it is that His people shall he presented to Him faultless, faithful to the work which He has commenced in us by our effectual calling. It is not their own faithfulness but the Lord's own faithfulness on which the saints rely.

Come, my soul, here is a grand feast to begin a dull month with. There may be fogs without, but there should be sunshine within.

Suppose It's True After All -- What Then?

Two friends were talking on religious topics. They discussed the question of eternal punishment and agreed that there was no Hell and that a God of love could never allow His creatures to go to everlasting punishment.

The conversation was over when a Christian who had been a silent listener said: "SUPPOSE IT IS TRUE, AFTER ALL."

The words fell on the ears of the other two with unusual force.

SUPPOSE IT IS TRUE that God means what He says "Because He hath appointed a day, in the which He will judge the world in righteousness by that Man whom He hath ordained; whereof He hath given assurance to all men in that He hath raised Him from the dead" (Acts 17:31).

SUPPOSE IT IS TRUE that Hell is a reality. God said: "It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment" (Hebrews 9:27).

SUPPOSE IT IS TRUE that Christ alone is the way of salvation and you neglect HIM. "How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation" (Hebrews 2:3)?

SUPPOSE IT IS TRUE that the blood of Christ is the only way your sins can be cleansed. Are you cleansed before the Lord or are you still going on in your sins? "The blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin" (1 John 1:7).

SUPPOSE IT IS TRUE that salvation is not of works as God says in Ephesians 2:8,9: "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works lest any man should boast." What hope then is there in your religion, your church, the sacraments, the preacher or the priest, trying to follow the Golden Rule or keeping the Ten Commandments, or even doing the best you can?

SUPPOSE IT IS TRUE, AFTER ALL? If it were not true, then the believer is not losing anything by living for Jesus, by living a good life with eternity's values in view. But if it is true, how terrible would be your doom if you "Die in your sins" (John 8:21). Hurry to Christ and be saved. He alone is the Way into Heaven (John 14:6).

Excellent post!! As I read the last post and the question, "Suppose it is true..." I couldn't help but think of Paschal's Wager...

EITHER God exists or he doesn't.
Which alternative will you wager on?
You can't avoid choosing one or the other;
you have embarked on the wager already.
A refusal to choose carries the same result
as choosing that God does not exist.
What if you choose to bet that God exists?
If you win, you win everything;
if you lose, you lose nothing.
Make a bet that God exists."

If those who choose not to believe in the existence of God or don't put their trust in the word of God will one day face the King, as we all shall. They will find that their wager was wrong and will forevermore face an eternity without God. If they choose to believe in God and his word and trust in the gospel of Christ and accept him for who he is and what he says, they've lost nothing and have everything to gain. Contrariwise, if they choose not to believe and accept, their blood will be on their own hands. A dangerous gamble I would think.

The Magnitude of Grace

My grace is sufficient for thee; for my strength is made perfect in weakness. (2 Corinthians 12:9)

Our weakness should be prized as making room for divine strength. We might never have known the power of grace if we had not felt the weakness of nature. Blessed be the Lord for the thorn in the flesh, and the messenger of Satan, when they drive us to the strength of God.

This is a precious word from our Lord's own lip. It has made the writer laugh for joy. God's grace enough for me! I should think it is. Is not the sky enough for the bird and the ocean enough for the fish? The All-Sufficient is sufficient for my largest want. He who is sufficient for earth and heaven is certainly able to meet the case of one poor worm like me.

Let us, then, fall back upon our God and His grace. If He does not remove our grief, He will enable us to bear it. His strength shall be poured into us till the worm shall thresh the mountains, and a nothing shall be victor over all the high and mighty ones. It is better for us to have God's strength than our own; for if we were a thousand times as strong as we are, it would amount to nothing in the face of the enemy; and if we could be weaker than we are, which is scarcely possible, yet we could do all things through Christ.

Charles Spurgeon

Faith is what it takes to receive the grace to be saved. Not just faith but faith in the finished work of Christ on the cross for our sins.

John 3:14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:

John 3:15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

Jesus died for our sins. Moses lifted up the image of a fiery serpent in the wilderness and those Hebrews who looked upon it lived.

Numbers 21:6 And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died.

Numbers 21:7 Therefore the people came to Moses, and said, We have sinned, for we have spoken against the LORD, and against thee; pray unto the LORD, that he take away the serpents from us. And Moses prayed for the people.

Moses a type of Christ prayed for the sins of the people.

Numbers 21:8 And the LORD said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live.

Numbers 21:9 And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived.

Those who look to Jesus for Salvation shall be saved from the penalty of sin. Eternal damnation. Death.

It is not just mere mental assent that Jesus died for our sins but a saving faith. After all the truth must be "received with love".

2 Thessalonians 2:10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

Satan knows the truth but he hates it. Satan knows who Christ is and what our Saviour has done for us.

It is that type of saving faith that will save us.

Belief, belief, belief...

Acts 15:10 Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?

Acts 15:11 But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.

The Philipian Jailer heard the gospel and was saved.

1 Corinthians 15:1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;

1 Corinthians 15:2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

1 Corinthians 15:3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

1 Corinthians 15:4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

The entire Old Testament sacrifice points to the fact that Jesus would bear the sins of the world and that those people who placed their faith in Him and acknowledged their sinful state and need for a Saviour would have salvation.

1 Peter 2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

Isaiah 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

Receiving Christ gives us the power to become a son of God.

John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

1 John 3:2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

Believing on Christ is doing the works of God...

John 6:29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.

Jesus is the sin bearer and through faith in Him we have life everlasting.

John 1:29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

2 Corinthians 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

We must have faith in Him and His name to be saved.

Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

John 5:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

Can We Be Sure?

Can we be sure we'll spend eternity in heaven? Many people say you can't be sure. Are they right? Does spending eternity in Heaven or Hell have to remain uncertain until it's too late?

Queen Victoria wanted to be sure. After attending a service in St. Paul's Cathedral, she asked her Chaplain, "Can one be absolutely sure in this life of eternal safety?" Be he didn't know any way to be certain.

The Court News published the remarks and John Townsend, an unassuming evangelist, saw them. After reading Queen Victoria's question and the answer she had received, Townsend began to think and pray about answering her himself. Then he sent the following note to the Queen:

To her gracious Majesty, our beloved Queen Victoria, from one of her most humble subjects:

With trembling hands, but heartfelt love, and because I know that we can be absolutely sure now of our eternal life in the Home that Jesus went to prepare, may I ask your Most Gracious Majesty to read the following passages of Scripture: John 3:16; Romans 10:9,10?

These passages prove that there is full assurance of salvation by faith in our Lord Jesus Christ for those who believe and accept His finished work.

I sign myself, your servant for Jesus' sake, John Townsend.

John Townsend told others about his letter to the Queen. Many prayers from many hearts went up to God. In about two weeks he received a modest-looking envelope containing the following letter:

To John Townsend: Your letter of recent date I received and in reply would state that I have carefully and prayerfully read the portions of Scripture referred to. I believe in the finished work of Christ for me, and trust by God's grace to meet you in that Home of which He said, "I go to prepare a place for you."

(Signed) Victoria Guelph

The way of salvation is the same for a queen or a common citizen. The Bible verses John Townsend recommended to the Queen were:

"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believe in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." (John 3:16)

"If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." (Romans 10:9,10)

These verses and many other in the Word of God show us that anyone who, by faith, received Jesus Christ as Saviour has eternal life immediately. The Apostle John tells us that his Gospel was written, "that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through His name." (John 20:31)

Those who believe have eternal salvation. Jesus Himself said: "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth My word, and believeth on Him that sent Me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life." (John 5:24)

Can a Christian ever lose his salvation? "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me: and I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of My hand." (John 10:27,28)

1 John 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

Can We Be Sure?

Can we be sure we'll spend eternity in heaven?
Those who pass every test, will be allowed into heaven, for all eternity.

Revelation 22:14 Blessed [are] they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

I passed! Yippeee!

John 5:22-24 For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son: That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him. Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

That is the only test that I see that we are accountable for. I pass also. :D

Those who pass the test...are mentioned in Revelation 14:12.

The 7th day sabbath is, the supreme test of faith !

A Completed Sacrifice

CH Spurgeon

And he shall put his hand upon the head of the burnt offering: and it shall be accepted for him to make atonement for him. (Leviticus 1:4)

If by that laying on of his hand the bullock became the offerer's sacrifice, how much more shall Jesus become ours by the laying on of the hand of faith?

My faith doth lay her hand On that dear head of Thine, While like a penitent I stand, And there confess my sin.

If a bullock could be accepted for him to make atonement for him, how much more shall the Lord Jesus be our full and all-sufficient propitiation? Some quarrel with the great truth of substitution; but as for us, it is our hope, our joy, our boast, our all.

Jesus is accepted for us to make atonement for us, and we are "accepted in the Beloved." Let the reader take care at once to lay his hand on the Lord's completed sacrifice, that by accepting it he may obtain the benefit of it. If he has done so once, let him do it again. If he has never done so, let him put out his hand without a moment's delay. Jesus is yours now if you will have Him. Lean on Him--lean hard on Him--and He is yours beyond all question; you are reconciled to God, your sins are blotted out, and you are the Lord's. :D
