Proverbs 26:20

New King James Version (NKJV)

20 Where there is no wood, the fire goes out;
And where there is no talebearer, strife ceases.

I long for the day when there are no more talebearers. Big sigh... No one is free to sin, especially thinking sinfully.

It can be.

James 3:6

The tongue here is expressed through our thoughts and hearts.

Shirley McClaine did a new age movie years ago (I forget the name of it) where someone taught her that she was god.

She kept saying to herself " I am god" and she started to believe it

Can and is are 2 very different things

I agree.

Could you please explain the difference within our text.

You gave an example of where it was to support your point about it can be. But doesn't mean everyone who is a "free thinker" will start having delusions of grandeur

That's true, but it's good to remind each other about where we let our minds wander.

Our minds do wander and can wander to some odd and unpleasant places. But if your mind is on God and you let it wander, the possibilities are amazing and endless.

Good morning,

I think you bring up a key point Grazer. When we are thinking upon God, we still have to be careful though. What are you thinking about God? Perhaps a person thinks God won't forgiven them, or, maybe someone thinks that Jesus isn't God. Unbelief is a great sin, and if a person dies in it, there will be no pardon for them. Let's say someone thinks something about God that is not true, only because he's trying to figure things out. It's still sin, because what He thinks about God is still untrue. That doesn't mean that God won't forgive him, but it doesn't mean that God sanctions his wrong understanding. This is most certainly true about every Christian. Two of the most difficult things to believe in Christianity are God allows zero sin to go unpunished, and God is willing to forgive all but the rejection of the means of our forgiveness, Jesus Christ. Unbelief, which is purely thinking, is a sin of the first rank.
