Gay McDonalds Ad

My friend talks a lot about how the "homosexual agenda" is being pushed so hard these days. IDK what to think about it.. I know that aren't supposed to judge and that one sin is the same as another, but it's hard not to get upset when "gay is okay" is pushed so hard on our kids! I feel like, before long, I won't even be able to teach my son right from wrong.. I'm afraid I won't even be able to explain how the Bible speaks of homosexuality for fear he might get in trouble at school if he says something. (already happening) Well here's the ad, it's French but I feel it won't be long before we start seeing similar ads in America..

PHF...

Boy, can I ever relate to what you're saying here. I have two kids, 13 and 11 (today is my son's birthday) and I worry as well.

It might have seemed easier back in the day when Christians ruled the airways to raise Godly children...but come to think of it, it didn't happen. The generation raised on "wholesome" pop culture (Leave it to Beaver, Father Knows Best, Perry Como) was the generation that brought about the late 1960's counter-culture which ushered in open sex, open drug use etc. etc. etc.

The truth is, we as parents must instill godly discretion in our kids...and this has been true of Christian parents from the get-go.

Your son is going to be inundated by the world no matter what. Everywhere he goes the world is going to push ungodly things at him, tempting him to embrace them. The best defense to all of this is to train him up according to God's word, and help him understand where the world goes wrong and why it goes wrong.

Right now, my daughter is 13 years old. She has a 13 year old's love for pop music, for pop culture, for TV shows and books. Just the other day she brought a book home from her Junior High Library about a 15 year old girl getting pregnant.

I realize there is no way to wrap her in a protective bubble and keep all these things from her. But, we talk a lot about the messages that these songs, TV shows and books are sending out to her, and she has learned that promoting the idea that a 15 year old girl having a baby is going to a: bring the paternal grandparents back from the brink of divorce, b: cause the maternal grandmother to stop drinking and doing drugs, c: cause a 16 year old boy to realize that he needs to stop being a jerk and grow up and d: in no way prevent the 15 year old mother from going on to a honors course in college is just plain stupid. Viola enjoyed the book, because it was written in a comical, witty way, but still realized that the entire premise was a fantasy, not to be confused with real life and not to be confused with godly wisdom.

I'm pleased with her that she is showing signs of such discernment. She still needs her father and I to help her understand the lies of the world, and, as much as she "hates" it (with all the passion a 13 year old girl can muster) she must continue on in her Christian education such as catechism and bible studies...but she is growing in godly wisdom, and this will be what will serve her once she leaves our home and strikes out on her own.

But, yeah, it's hard. We did wind up getting rid of our satilite TV and now just have Netflix and DVD's...it's much easier to control the content and we don't have to worry about commercials...I found commercials to be a problem back when we were watching Disney's "Tarzan" on TV and a commercial for another show came on asking which of 3 men were this woman's baby's father.

he he that certainly brings new meaning to the McDonalds happy meal.

I thought the follow-up videos would be McDonals commercials, but they're not. I wonder where they came from (I only watched the first one in the second post, but I saw the titles), but you could find just about anything if you look around on youtube. :o

The thing we shouldn't judge is someone's heart for the Lord or their salvation, IMO. There is such a thing as "righteous judgment". We need to call sin "sin", whether it's homosexual behavior or gossip. We can't accommodate it. Most people cite Matthew 7:1 in saying that we should not judge others, but this is a warning not to be self righteous, believing that we are above sin. As Christians, we should not look upon ourselves as righteous on our own while lowering others. But if we are able to view ourselves as "needful sinners", we can and ought to point our sin where we see it among believers. It doesn't do anyone good to ignore it.

Nothing we can do about the path the world is taking, but we can instruct our own and keep order within the Body of Christ. Although, I didn't see an American version of a gay McDonald's commercial, I suspect we're not far away from one.
