Hi all,

I've recently written a commentary on Genesis 1 on my blog. I'm a new Christian so it might need some input from others - I would very much appreciate viewpoints on this. It seems to me that Genesis 1 is particularly scoured for details that can be used in arguments for and against creation by God. However, by doing that, people are missing (what is, to me) the whole point - In the beginning, God created - not how or why, just that He did.

To think sixty or so years ago science just knew the universe was eternal. Today however it has been discovered it did indeed have a beginning. The creation of time-space and energy, the metamorphosis of light beams of that energy of creation into particles of matter. Yet those particles from which living bodies are constructed show not one hint of sentience. But we are alive with feelings of joy, the transcendental ecstasy of love, and self awareness. It cries out for an explanation that seems to find its root in something other than the material.

Everyone one of us chirstian, jew, muslim, hindu whatever is truly made in the image of God

As to the question why? I think God has made this physical chapter of life, within which we currently dwell for our physical as well as spiritual pleasure. Now if only we could learn to enjoy it.

True enough Brother. However, what we should take away from it, is that, Yes the very first verse has science in it, and history and fact. Jesus DID create the earth and all that is therein.

The science champions which are holding science up above God more and more are making it a religion unto itself. What they are forgetting is that our God is so much bigger than science!

That is a false view.
Science is the examination of nature (creation) and has the purpose of understanding how nature (creation) works.
Since God is not part of nature (creation) science cannot examine God. Scientists have no means of finding out anything about God.
That does not mean that scientists are "holding science up above God".
They are limited to examining what God created so that's what they do.
They do not consider what God does because they have no way of doing so.

I'll buy that. Perhaps saying holding it up as a religion would be better. It's all how they are using it against us to draw us away from God. So I had a poor choice of words. You are correct.

But that is not the most common view as demonstrated by the Scientific Community in the News Casts.

That would also be false.
Being a scientist, or a doctor, or a sailor, or a tailor, or a lawyer is not a religion.
It is a career.

The attempt to establish a Christianity vs. Science conflict is a false approach to both science and Christianity. When you hear or read someone's comments where he or she sets up that false conflict, you can rest assured that what follows is junk.

It would have to be. Because the truth is, that science and Christianity support each other and agree. Man has a hard time seeing this usually. God is bigger than science and demonstrates that when He performs miracles. So perhaps, I agree with you again. Lol. :lol

That's one view.
IMO, that view places the opinion of what Genesis 1 says above observable and verifiable data (also known as "reality.")
It's like saying that John 21:25 should be taken literally.
And there are also many other things that Jesus did, which if they were written one by one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that would be written.

I view Gen 1:1 through 2:3 as the genealogy of creation with the story of creation (not "historical account") beginning at Gen 2:4.
I believe that to view it as what we in the modern West call "History" is to corrupt its message.
