Galatians 1:6-12
6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:
7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.
8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.
10 For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.
11 But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man.
12 For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.

The apostle Paul asserts here in no uncertain terms that:
1. The Gospel that he preached was directly from the Lord Jesus Christ Himself.
2. That another "gospel" had been presented to the Galatians, and many of them were being swayed by this perverted gospel.
3. That if any man brings any other "gospel" than that which he had preached, that man would be under a curse from God
4. That even if an angel from heaven would bring another "gospel", he too would be under a curse from God.
Those who bring false "gospels" seem to forget this warning and this curse. So what are some of the false "gospels"?

1. That salvation is by grace through faith + WORKS
2. That salvation is by grace through faith + WATER BAPTISM
3. That salvation is by grace through faith + KEEPING THE LAW OF MOSES
4. That those who are saved can lose their salvation
5. That God chooses some sinners for Heaven and others for Hell
6. That there is no real Hell -- no eternal Lake of Fire
7. That Christ is NOT God -- just a man, or a prophet, or a creature
8. That God is NOT a tri-unity of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit

The false "gospel" brought to the Galatians was that they could not be saved unless they also kept the Law of Moses (Gal 5:1-4). The false Gospel to the Colossians was that they must worship Christ + angels + keep the Law of Moses (Col 2:8,16-18). So there are many false "gospels" even now, and many believe them. Christians are to expose the false gospels and preach the true Gospel (and there is ONLY ONE true Gospel).

martin luther didn't believe in eternal security. neither does some here.

until Luther came along by large the church was teaching what they did, some didn't do the evil things that they did, but solo fide wasn't known to them.

I would generally agree with your 'list.'

Ephesians 2:8
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

And yes, there are many false Gospels and phony Jesus' being promoted. Yet Paul thanked God however Jesus was proclaimed.

Philippians 1:18
What then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretence, or in truth, Christ is preached; and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice.

We all present the Gospel from an unavoidable factual position of weakness, seeing only in part. There is no list that will avoid the conclusion of factual reality, of seeing only in part, or that there is cohesiveness 'if only' we subscribe to certain matters. No list will conclude any of us from the obvious shortsightness induced by our factual conditions.

Though such lists as you present will teach us how to avoid certain theological and doctrinal traps, likewise we never escape other scriptural facts that are just as vital to bow to, truthfully.

God in Christ works in and through our personal imperfections, whatever they may be. There is no list of anything that will make us Perfect by subscriptions.

'Salvation' in #'s 1, 2, and 3 should read 'justification'.

And, you left these false gospels out of your list:

•I don't have to keep believing and trusting in Christ to the very end to be saved.

•Faith that does not produce righteous works is the faith that justifies.

It's not often that "gotanswers, org" (Yes, deliberately facetious) gets something right, in straight, simple terms, without fogging up their explanations with often slanted doctrinal views. But, this time, I think they did a pretty good job......

"These, then, are the essential elements of the gospel: the sin of all men, the death of Christ on the cross to pay for those sins, the resurrection of Christ to provide life everlasting for those who follow Him, and the offer of the free gift of salvation to all.

IMHO, to compile lists that kind of wander off into left field, has nothing to do with identifying the teaching of a false gospel..... even if there are some truths (or, just opinions or traditions) stuck in the lists.

Salvation is by Faith only a Faith in Jesus will produce fruits of Baptism and keeping laws and following His direction.

Jethro,
"Justification" is one facet of salvation, which is multi-faceted. See Titus 3:4-7. And of course good works after salvation are always tied to salvation (Eph 2:8-10), since it is "God which worketh in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure" (Phil 2:13). There is a mistaken idea that good works are generated by the Christian, whereas Scripture teaches that God produces good works through the Christian

Glad tidings of great joy! - the original good news/gospel ..... is ...... simply/simply believe ..... Jn.20:31

Do not be misled ..... Gal.1:8

There's hardly much point, Mel, in continually trying to show you how often people tend to misread a language no one uses anymore. It is all too frequent that we totally reverse the intended meaning when we read in 1500 - 1600 language, yet try to reason in 2014 understanding.

This is how the church rationalizes having a 'do nothing' faith and thinking they have the faith that can save them.

Christ by the Holy Spirit is the motivator of good works in the believer. That means you move your body in response to the impulse of the voice and power of the Holy Spirit within. It is our responsibility to respond to the unction of the Holy Spirit. It is not God's responsibility to move your body for you. It is not a works gospel to move your own body and control your own thoughts in obedience to the voice of the Holy Spirit.

It is a false gospel that says you can resist the voice of the Holy Spirit and still take assurance that you have the faith that saves.
