they burdened the law with do's and dont's

As the scripture shows, even Jesus and His disciples broke the Sabbath!

Jesus never "broke" the Sabbath commandment. He never considered pulling an ear of corn as "harvesting".

HE never considered healing someone as "work".

By the time of Jesus, the Israelites had their own set of "do's" and "dont's" for the Sabbath, which had nothing to do with the Bible, which were not written in the Bible. Jesus went out of HIS way to point these out to them.
 
Nu 15:32 And while the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man that gathered sticks upon the sabbath day.
33 And they that found him gathering sticks brought him unto Moses and Aaron, and unto all the congregation.
34 And they put him in ward, because it was not declared what should be done to him.
35 And the LORD said unto Moses, The man shall be surely put to death: all the congregation shall stone him with stones without the camp.
36 And all the congregation brought him without the camp, and stoned him with stones, and he died; as the LORD commanded Moses.

What Christ and His Apostles did is no different than what this man did in the above scripture.
 
I see a HUGE difference. First of all, are you wanting to argue with Christ about what He did or did not do on the Sabbath? I believe you would lose.

Second, do you have ANY idea what it takes to gathers sticks in that desert? This was labor pure and simple, both physically and mentally. Besides they were verbally forbidden from doing so. To this day, it would be wrong for me to gather wood on the Sabbath, assuming I needed wood to cook my meals or warm my home.

Thirdly, we are talking about an attitude here, too. Work is work and you cannot do work on the Sabbath.
 
It is the Bible that says that jesus and His disciples broke the Sabbath!

Joh 5:18 Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.

it does not say that he broke it in the eyes of the jews, it says that He had broken the Sabbath!
 
MATTHEW 12: 1-8 -- MARK 2: 26 -- LUKE 6: 4

Didn't Jesus compare His plucking the corn and eating it with the time when David and his men were so hungry that they went into the Temple and ate the "show bread" that was not lawful to eat.

Jesus excused this as a one time necessity (I'm paraphrasing).

"Or how on the Sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are blameless?

"But I say unto you, That in this place is one greater than the temple. But if you had known what this means, 'I will have mercy and not sacrifice', you would not have condemned THE GUILTLESS. For the Son of man is LORD even of the Sabbath day."

This appears to be the way Jesus looked at the "plucking of the corn", a one time necessity - for hunger.

Hopefully, any law could be "broken" once, to save lives.

The Christian should understand that God never changes !

The Christian does not keep the 7th day Sabbath 'to be' saved....they are to keep it, 'because' they are saved. :)

Are you implying that the first-century Christians that assembled for worship on the first day of the week actually were not Christians?


The sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.

Could you point to the time and the place where the abuse of the Sabbath by the Jewish teachings were corrected to the place where today's Sabbath worshippers are correct?

can you find any biblical sources where Christians actually worshiped on the first day of the week ? I can not find any.
 
Ac 20:7 ¶ And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.

This verse shows us that the disciples gathered together on the first day of the week, Paul preached to them.

This was a meeting of God's people (the Church), on the FIRST day of the week--(Saturday evening through untill midnight).

This was NOT on the Sabbath--neither was it on a Sunday either!!

It wasn't on Saturday or Sunday ?

If days ended and started at sunset, then this was a sunday gathering, no?
 
He's saying it was a 'first day' meeting. Our calendar and start/end of the day is different than that of the Jews of that time.
