I got a toll fee in the mail for driving on a toll road I never been on. In fact this particular vehicle was in the garage and went to work in the other on the day in question which looking at Google maps would take me 16 hours to get there.

Which means someone either faked their plates and happened to get my plate number or they screwed something up when getting the plate number. But how do I convince them I was at work and the vehicle/plate in question was in the garage at the time.

This happened to me.

I wrote to the issuer of the ticket, which was over 100.-

I put my plate number and type/color of my car.
They just cancelled the ticket.

It was an obvious mistake.
Send proof that it was in the shop and where you live.

If it happened to me, I would respond with a letter/call/ or whatever means they provide for contact to tell them your vehicle was not there, and then forget about it. I personally do not pay what I do not owe, the burden of proof is on them, but there is no guarantee of justice. Ask them for the evidence they have, you should be able to see it is not your vehicle.

Ok. There's a number I can call too so I'll try that and give them the car description. Plus I was indeed at work so there isnt any way that I would be driving out of state. One thing though, the vehicle in question was at my home garage. Not in a shop. But still couldn't have driven it due to me being at work.

Yeah and its like $3. They would see a problem as why would someone call for $3. Its gotta be an error and hopefully they just input the wrong number. I see similar plates around my home state so it could have been any of them that maybe they just messed up the numbers. Yeah I will be asking for proof unless of course they catch the error themselves before.

Hopefully the vehicle isn't similar too.

I don't think you'll have a problem.

Yes, my son in Austin has gotten toll tickets a couple of times for a vehicle that he sold. He just explained to them what happened. You might double check your mechanic. Maybe he used your car on a test ride or to get some coffee.

Funny story: My wife got a pay by mail toll ticket. She immediately assumed it was for me, although we were separated at the time. Anyway, she just throws it away. Second notice comes and she mentions it to my son. I ask him to have her forward it to me so that I can pay it, rather than get in trouble because she was throwing the notices in the trash. So, I call and find out that it's for her car, not mine. I quietly sent it back with the explanation that it was now over 90 days past due and it is her ticket.

God bless,
Ted.

My mechanic wouldnt do that, even if he did he couldn't because all that was done to it was an oil change, check fluids, rotate tires, grease whatever while I was in the waiting area. And plus that was before it was winter as its the less rusty vehicle, primarily due to the other one being more rusty and older I drive the older one more. It's more likely a clerical error, at least that's all I hope it was because I was at work. Nobody besides me can go in the garage and it's just a backup vehicle in case my daily one has a problem. Plus it was definitely out of state, looks like Texas (which is pretty far from Illinois), I'll find out specifically when i get off work because it shows whatever toll booth, not the road name, nor state it was in.

I have done some test drives but never out of state .out of county because I live within a mile or two of the county line and that was to check how well the ac worked on my truck .I didn't have to just it seemed to take a long time .

HI MayGodHeal

I wasn't really serious. I assumed that your mechanic would be in Chicago and it's a long way to Texas from there. But it has happened before that a customer's car gets 'used' while it's in the shop.

Ah. I've heard of it happening. Makes the good mechanics that don't do this look bad.. it probably depends on whether you go to a mom and pop shop or a name brand mechanic. I avoid places like Jiffy Lube.

Well it was a clerical error. Someone else from Illinois had a similar plate but it was at least 2 numbers off. The lady told me she would get angry calls on this as this is a regular issue. It was some Texas toll but they seem to work in Kansas and some other state.

I just have to verify in like 7 business days on their site to make sure they took it off.

Hi MayGodHeal

Glad you were able to get it resolved. Unfortunately, the auto number plate toll system has it's glitches. But everyone I've talked to, as far as billing errors, says they're pretty fair about dropping the charge. See, the world's not quite as bad as you're afraid that it is.

God bless,
Ted

The description of the car should be on the ticket.
My buddy got a ticket by mail for speeding. It was his daughter caught by a speed trap camera. The person driving is responsible, not the car owner, so I don't know how they can do that.

Doesn't have it but they did have the wrong plate in the system which happened to me mine.

I've heard of utility companies overcharging before. Not sure if that was ever resolved but they probably misread the readouts, some of them went digital/smart readouts.

Well I know not everyone is evil. Talking about roads earlier, the highway roads I take here are rough, but we're going to paint it so people that have half or no headlights can see the lines at night. They could at least grind off the high spots to level it out better. They did it on one section, I would think you would do that before painting the lines.

A smart meter broadcast it's usage there is no person who comes to read it..

However you can read the display and track usage .

It seems that your ability to make a statement without snide asides is deficient. I honestly have no idea how this issue of utilities overcharging applies to the matter of your toll, but hey if it's a solid argument to you, then it must be so.

God bless,
Ted

Well I have no problems seeing the lines at night, do rough roads really need freshly painted lines? Then again I have all my lights working.
Yes, but in what universe do they paint road markings so that people with poor or no headlights can see at night. I mean does that just make your heart putter to denigrate others in order to explain fairly normal road maintenance.

Ted

HI MayGodHeal

I mean, maybe you don't see it. But your entire dialogue most times is to tear down all those people out there who ain't like you. It just doesn't seem to be a particularly attractive 'christian' character.

God bless,
Ted
