What was the name of that song that sounded like Aretha Franklin, but wasn't? It was touted as the best song that Aretha Franklin never wrote...It was a good song but the title escapes me.

No, it was another black female artist, and they played the song to death on the radio way back when, and I always thought it was Aretha, but it turned out to be someone else. I forget her name, and the name of the song, but it was good.

As far as I know, this is the only song by a completely fictitious band to make it to #1 on the charts. In 1969, this was #1 on the charts for 4 weeks in the US and for 8 weeks in the UK.
