Gun sales up, violent crime down

In the District and Prince George's County, homicides are down about 17 percent this year.
Violent crime has plummeted in the Washington area and in major cities across the country, a trend criminologists describe as baffling and unexpected.

Doesn’t look like that gun control thing works very good.
You think there could be an inverse relationship between armed victims and violent crime? ??

:)

Everyone? That's scary really. There are way too many unstable people out there, felons, etc....

I know what you meant though. I think anyone who wants one, can pass a background check, and takes the responsibility to get the safety/handling training should have a firearm.

Here in Philly they have 2 programs, that they run every so many months, 1 program is the food vouchers for guns and rifle program, you turn your gun in with no questions asked, not even your name. And the other one is cash for guns, no questions asked. It is to get guns off the street, and every time that they do it, they come up big time, with all types of guns, then they take all the weapons and melt them down. I wonder if they test them for ballistics first.

Time to get guns off the street, yes, illegal guns. It's not time to turn in your grandpa's old side by side for some quick cash. This program isn't worth diddle.

Well Brian, when you live in a city where, the gun is god to many people, and sometimes we get over 400 murders a year, we take what we can get, and we will take those gun programs, and we are glad to have them. Because some of those weapons that they turn in, sooner or later will be used to shoot somebody. There have been innocent people sitting in their house here in Philly and bullets have come into their house and killed them, I know of about 4 including a 12 year old girl sitting in her living room watching TV, a teenage girl was also killed that way, and the last one, was last summer, a man was in his bedroom getting ready to go to work and a bullet came through the window, and he never showed up for work, because he was dead. And all those shooting were from shoot outs on the street, like the OK Coral. So for us we take what we can get, Philadelphia is no joke. And unless you live in the middle of this garbage, you cannot understand.

Of course, it would be wrong to associate a decline in homicides to an increase in firearm sales since there may be no correlation at all. If even the criminologists are baffled, there is good reason to suspect something else. Having said that, I didn't read the links. :D

I absolutely agree with this.

Especially the part about passing a firearm safety training class before being allowed to own one. A background check really isn't good enough, in my opinion. All too often I see stupid people purchasing guns and sure, they've never committed a crime in their life so of course they qualify for one, but then I see them goofing around with it out on the shooting range, pointing it at one another and drinking while they practice. It's downright insane.

I've been the victim of being 'swept' with loaded firearms at gun ranges. I quickly corrected them. I also saw some teens shooting two pistols at once holding them 'gangsta style' (sideways), then turning and laughing while pointing their pistols at their buddies. Stupid. They were reported and I haven't seen them since.

Chicago has some of if not the strictest gun laws in the U.S. their murder rate and crime with guns rate is through the roof!! Huh??? Wonder why? Because law abiding citizens aren't allowed to protect themselves and the bad guys don't follow the law.

I'm interested to know the gun laws in Philly since crime is so high. I'll have to look it up.

Generally, crime is lower where gun laws are less strict. Arkansas has concealed carry laws and crime is low.
