Happy Australia Day Nick!! I remember those ghastly drop bears you mentioned a while back :lol
Thanks. :). Time for all the celebrations to begin...boat and navy shows on the harbour, air force shows, stunt shows, vintage car showcases, fireworks...you name it. It's going to be a great day.

Better be careful of those drop bears, they can get pretty nasty.

Is this the day that Australia gained it's indepence from the Brittish empire?

how did they gain their independence?

I wouldn't mind moving to Australia except for their silly gun laws. :shrug

Happy day Nick. And I wouldn't want to be around that drinken Roo. :o

It was a great day. I went into the CBD and harbour to this insane 1000+ vintage car show, dating from 1920 till about the mid 80's. Great stuff. :)

Yeah, that kangaroo is super cool. If you moved to Australia Brian, you'd see a few more ;) :D.

Australia (unfortunately) has not gained its independence from the British :sad. Hopefully soon, though. Australia Day celebrates mainly two things:
1) the settlement of Europeans in Australia in 1788
and not as much
2) the Federation of Australia in 1901

The Aboriginies call it "invasion day" as it traditionally hasn't celebrated their part in this land since they've been here at least 40 000 years. But its good to see that they are being more recognised in these kind of celebrations, but still not much, unfortunately.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot this event! I was just in Australia last month! But my mind was on Boxing Day though heheeh. Happy Australia Day Land Down Under! I'm missing the country and the people and their climate! :)

Australia has autonomy, it still does answer to the crown? i'm confused. :confused

Australia is a consitutional monarchy, which means on most matters it is independent and has its own consitution and parliament etc, but King/Queen of England is still ultimately head of state, but their power these days is fairly weak. Still, technically we are still part of the British Commonwealth.
