Happy Canada Day to fellow Canadian citizens!

Paul says: 'In every thing give thanks' (1 Thess. 5.)

:lol I misread the title at first and thought you were toasting everyone with a Canada Dry....

Yes, happy Canada Day everyone... I have Canada in my heritage... my ancestors on my mother's side were Loyalists in the Revolution and relocated to Canada... it wasn't until the 1800's that subsequent Tingley's got back on this side of the boarder.

the cranmans likely attepted to make canada the next state in the war of 1812. well not cranmans but my grandpa's mother maiden name. he died before i could get the right jewish name. hmm if im bored i shoot an pm to my family on fb.

Danus: Canada Day, July 1, is the anniversary of Confederation, 1867, when the Dominion of Canada was established.

(It is roughly equivalent to July 4 in the US.)

Cool, was there a bloody battle involved? :) I never here of bloody battles or Canadian freedom rebels. Does Canada have any drama in it's history? I've often wondered.

Danus:

No; & it depends how you define freedom.

Canada was British for years and years; its motto was 'peace, order and good government'. Gradually the British in Canada ceased to call themselves British (basically).

:lol a bloody battle for independence. no only yanks did that to the empire. all other just ask to be removed from the empire.

J:

In the case of Canada it was the case that in 1867 the various colonies clubbed together in order to stay British, because they didn't really trust the British to come and defend them, otherwise. (Work that one out...)

Blessings.

well in america we had the idea of militias because we figure that out along time ago and every man was to do his part. it worked when we fought in the seven years war and also the revolutionary war.

Yes well in Upper Canada before Confederation militias were raised to defend the colony from Irish Fenians, so that the Upper Canadians could stay British...

Meh, everyone here is happy enough but it's NOTHING like July 4 :P

Still, Canadians are generally very nice people, I'm happy for them. Still, it would be nice to have someone to celebrate with in three days :sad

DHR:

Ty.

The answer to your statement kind of goes back to the 18th century.... :)

(but since the 19th century the US-Canada border has been the most peaceful in the world.)

Happy holiday to best northern suburb of the United States I can think of. I hear there's hope to finally complete the electrical grid and push running water to the whole darn thing! :clap

Actually, the frustrating thing is that we can never have our Fourth of July fireworks that Detroit shares with Windsor on the Fourth of July, because you all can't read a calendar. You have your holiday 3 days early! :lol

In all seriocity... Happy Canada Day!! :wave

To all you great neighbors in the north, happy Canada Day. God keep your land, glorious and free. :wave

Thanks, guys. You guys have your day on Wednesday, right? :)

(Today in Canada, because July 1 was a Sunday, there is the corresponding holiday in lieu of yesterday.)
