Harry Potter?

Wicca is another word for witchcraft - Rowling claimed she researched spells carefully & the books & films have led many kids to take witchcraft classes

All the empires that ever ruled the world were condemned & destroyed by God for their occult practices - all of which are forbidden in Deuteronomy 18:9-13 etc

Must go

When you have time Ian, I'd like to see the sources where Rowling claims to have researched spells, and especially some clear proof that the books and films have lead many kids to take witchcraft classes. I've look and look for hard evidence that this is true and cannot find any source that shows a direct correlation between the Potter books and any increase in witchcraft. Mind you, I've found a lot of sources that claim that there is, just nothing that clearly shows this claim is anything more than urban legend.

About Wicca and witchcraft being the same, well, it 'tis and it 'tisn't. Wicca is a specific occult religion with clear teachings, holidays, and rituals, none of which show up in the Potter books. Witchcraft is a far more broad term. Witchcraft can be referring to specific religious practices or it can be (in the case of the Potter books, as well as the Narnia books and the LOTR books) a literary device. Whereas I believe the former to be clearly prohibited for Christians, I think the latter can fall into an area of personal liberty. In other words, to those that think using witchcraft as a literary device is sin, don't read the books. (Just don't be hypocritical and condemn Rowlings while embracing Tolkien.) However, for those who don't think there is anything inherently sinful in literary devices, then feel free to enjoy.

 I have watched a few of the movies of Harry Potter. I really like scary movies. But this one is very different. It is a way to get kids interested in the witchcraft & magic. I feel as a Christian i have to look into what God's Word says about that. We have to be careful of what we watch or read. There are only to forces in this world, God's & the devil's. I see these movies & books as a kind of gate being open to allow demons to teach our children & teens. i watched every move with my daughter & i pointed out what God's Word said about this or that.
i never allowed her to read those books, the first one that came out i thought it would be a fun book to read, but as with some of her books i read the first one in the book store, & i left it there. i couldn't believe all the signs pointing to witchcraft that were there.
No i will not tell someone else they souldn't read them, only if they ask i will point out what God's Word says about this kind of "religion" evil is evil & not to be made to look good. i don't think it is like the Lord of the rings, i just know God says we are to stay away from these things.
i know many Christians who read them & so do their kids, i don't say anything to them i feel that is their judgment call on what they do, but i just can't do it, even when i watched the movie i just didn't get most of the plot, but i did understand the it was witchcraft. I was into witchcraft before i was saved, maybe that is why i am against it, i was into it & then Jesus saved me, i cannot go back.
Oh well i thought i would add my 2 cents worth.
God bless, Cheryl :B-fly:

Ummmm noooooooooooo.

Rowling never made any such claim. That is blatant false witness (whcih I thought Christians were forbidden? Oh well).

1. Rowling is a Christian. Church of Scotland I believe. Although given the way some Christiaans treat and lie about her I wouldn't blame her if she left Chrisstianity. She has not, however.

2. Nothing in the Potter books bears any relation to any existing system of magic, Wiccan or otherwise. thus if she had done the research that some "Christians" claim she had, she did an abysmally poor job of it ROFL.
